Student driver takes the big wheel

I am a truck driver. At least, I am in a parking lot.

I climbed up Thursday morning into a big rig known as "Big Sue" and settled into the driver's seat.

“She is the biggest, baddest thing we have," said Kevin “Mac” McIntire, truck driving instructor extraordinaire at Trainco Inc. "If you can drive that, you can drive anything.”

McIntire has been an instructor for almost three years, and a truck driver for 25 years.

I heard McIntire ask me a question that made me feel cold: “Have you ever driven stick before?”

No. Never. I don't even know how to work a clutch. What if I burn out the clutch?

“No,” I said.

“Good, you'll be easier to teach," he said reassuringly. "No bad habits to unlearn. I can have you back up 100 feet straight.”

LOVE IIIIT! I am trying to get enrolled in Traincos April class. I have researched the local, and quasi-local companies, and everything short of pre-hire, I'm into OTR for the long haul...if you know what I mean.
