Friday afternoon, I was on the job at The Pie Factory, working alongside Shawn May, Lauren Schluchter and Mary Garard.

Jim and Beth Kimberlin re-opened The Pie Factory in January, taking over the business from former owners Kevin LaRose and Kevin McCabe. The deal was closed a week before Thanksgiving.

The place has won the Sandusky Rotary's Pizza Challenge “Best takeout pizza” title four years in a row.

The spacious pizzeria has no tables; it's strictly carryout.

And you'd better believe it: the pizzas get carried out in droves. When they opened at 10 a.m. Friday, they started churning out pizzas with the first order. They'd sell about 150 pies before the night's end.
