Denzel Castile still wore dark blue scrubs inmates at the Erie County Jail who have been placed on suicide watch wear while incarcerated.

He said only one sentence during the brief hearing, where his attorney, public defender Jeff Whitacre represented him, entering not guilty pleas to aggravated murder, felonious assault and assault on a peace officer.

Late Thursday night, police arrested Castile after witnessing him wrench his infant cousin, Athena Castile, away from family members and stab her several times in the midst of a chaotic scene at his grandparents Dewey Street home.

Though police and paramedics rushed the infant to Firelands Regional Medical Center, she died of the wounds about two hours later.

Police had to subdue Castile with a taser gun and pepperspray before they could handcuff him, and at the hospital, he bit a deputy's thumb so hard he broke skin.

In court Monday, nearly 40 family members and friends appeared for the short hearing, tearful as Judge Erich O'Brien read out loud the charges filed against him.

His bond was set at $1,025,000.

Thug???????I am not sure, but I was under the impression that up untill this the boy was a pretty good kid. I think he just snapped for what ever reason. He definitely deserves what is coming to him, and I am not justifying Or defending this type of behavior. It is sad and disturbing. My heart is with the family involved in this tragedy.

Brittany Murphy

My prayers are with the entire Castile family. May God fill you with His comfort and love through this difficult time.
I pray that the people of Sandusky can be understanding of how hard this situation is on the Castile family. There is no happy ending to this for them and hateful comments about their loved ones only intensifies their pain.

OH-IO

Brittany Murphy your a strong caring woman. I know you never condoned what the young man did. You simply mentioned that he was known to be a good boy and it seems alot of the community felt he was too. He obviously isn't as good as many thought but your criticism is unwarranted for saying what you knew. You didn't excuse him or say he was innocent. Understand that hate spews out of our hearts if it's there. It didn't take this situation for people to show it. It was already in their hearts. Alot has happened in this community that has angered people. Justice will be served. This has nothing to do with the hate you experienced. The community needs more caring and compassionate people like you. Your not the problem. Stay strong. Love and peace.

DGMutley

Ditto.

SuspectBlackMale

"Justice will be served" by WHO? Any court in Ohio?? DREAM ON

He will PLEA BARGAIN down to a 15-20 yr sentence and be out in 10

True Sandusky doesnt have a prosecutor as bad as PLEA BARGAIN BATES of Lucas County but OHIO JUSTICE IS A JOKE.

As for "GOD" punishing him? All COUPE DE VILLE, or DENZEL or whatever has to do as CONFESS his sins to god, REPENT and

DENZEL WILL GO TO HEAVEN where I guess the baby will still be a baby.

Hmmm. So WHY is there even a COMMANDMENT against MURDER when it is SO EASY TO GET INTO HEAVEN?

whazup

Assuming the family can post bond, I wonder who will allow him to stay at their home? If he can kill an 11 week old family member, how can anyone feel safe around him?

"calling, presumption of guilt or guilt by association, insensitivity, or picking fights"

You have GOT TO BE KIDDING !!!???

"insensitivity"??? "presumption of guilt"

Why not just say the only posts allowed are

"MY prayers ...... blah blah blah"

Taken22

I doubt anyone can or will post bond but if they could, why would they? Family or not he just killed one of their own. He shouldnt get a bond set at all. I think he obviously has issues and after doing this horrible act im sure his issues are worse so God only knows what he would be capable of doing at this point.

From all indications, something happened to this boy's mind. I agree that he needs to be punished for his crimes. What concerns me more is that so many people seem unable to handle stress in their life. May this family come through this trial stronger.

FlowerMom

grandmasgirl, this is not caused by stress. This is EVIL! [Period]. I suspect drugs and/or hanging with an EVIL crowd/or giving his mind over to evil posession.

Any person has the ability to perform an act of good or evil. It is the choices we make. A prominent Perkins student fell that was an athlete and good student has been in and out of prison on heroin charges for four years. He comes from a good family and did not hang with a bad crowd. Just as the killer above made a choice, so too have many others chose to do awful things. No one other than the killer knows what caused the action.

VOTENO

Hope the death penalty is used.

stayfit

It costs more money to put someone on death throw than to keep them in prison for life due to appeals and high-price trials. Proper rehabilitation programs in prison would be more beneficial. He may never see the light of day, but it would provide more time for the individual to make something of his life. Stanley Williams, who began the street gang Crips, killed multiple people and was on death row for murders. While serving time in prison, he spoke out against gangs and wrote children's books to inspire children to make positive choices. No person is all good nor all bad, but an eye for eye leaves the world blind. The crime is heinous but taking the life of another will never bring closure to the hearts of the family.

Informed

Flower, how do you know this boy isn't mentally ill? You suspect drugs or evil, but not mental illness?
Grandma, mental illness is not caused by everyday stress.

Brittany Murphy

Lets be real Informed. They assume drugs or evil because hes black. Sad!

VOTENO

Saying get a life is name calling? Who's the moderator? A pre school teacher?

WhatTheHeck

You assume it

Kelly

Yeah, people couldn't possibly think he's evil because he brutually murdered an 11 week old baby. It has to be because he's black. It couldn't he the fact that he sunk a knife into a precious little girl's head. It has to be because he's black. Oh wait...what color was that sweet little baby again?

stayfit

They assume drugs or evil because the dude is suspected of killing an infant. Racism still exists, but the children of today's society face nothing in comparison to prior generations. Our president is African American. The Sandusky Area has prominent African American leaders. I would bet that people would assume the worst due to his crime and not his race. Assumption of racism as a defense mechanism in a comment section that does not illustrate the components of interpersonal communication has limited criteria at best.

SuspectBlackMale

Racism is alive and well, because of blacks who are by far the most racist of all the groups in America. IN what other group to 90% of its members admit to voting for president because of his skin color

But the real way to shut down ignorant PC Nazis (not you , just in general) is with FACTS

FACT - Blacks are 12% of the US population

FACT - In 2011, BLACKS committed 50% of the murders in the US and have for every year going back at least FOUR DECADES
\
That is per the FBI/DOJ Report on Homicide Trends

FACT - BLACKS are 50% of VIOLENT OFFENDERS IN PRISON

Ignorant liberals blame all that on RACIST WHITES which of course is racist to think and say that is, in fact, racist, go figure

SabrinaSamson

You are always on the race thing arent you...who said anything about him being black...YOU did..people wold be just as outraged if it was a white person so quit trying to pull the race card
