This time, it’s official.
At a special meeting, board members agreed to hire a Betty Schwiefert as the district’s interim treasurer and accepted Weis’ resignation from the position.
Schwiefert will receive $398 a day and work two days per week, superintendent Dennis Muratori said.
She is also the interim treasurer at Norwalk Schools.
“We are fortunate to have someone with Ms. Schwiefert’s knowledge of school finance and experience serve as interim while the board completes their search for a permanent treasurer,” Muratori said.
As of mid-February, Weis had been filling in as interim Huron Schools treasurer on an as-needed basis while the district searched for a permanent replacement.
He received $30 an hour and most of his work took place from his retirement home near Chicago.
He announced his retirement from the full-time position Jan. 24, effective March 31.
Schwiefert retired as North Point Educational Service Center’s treasurer in 2012.
This past December, Norwalk Schools hired her to fill in as its interim treasurer on an as-needed basis, receiving $300 a day. The district is also seeking a permanent person for the position following the retirement of its longtime treasurer, Kenneth France.
North Point Educational Service Center is assisting both districts in their treasurer hunts.
Norwalk Schools hopes to hire its replacement by May 13, according to documents on the Ohio Educational Service Center Association’s website.
Huron Schools is reviewing applications and hopes to hire its replacement by May 28, Muratori said.
