School board picks Muratori

Sandusky administrator selected in a 3-2 vote

Huron Schools will look to a current Sandusky Schools administrator to guide the district forward as it confronts the aftermath of firing its former leader.

At a brief meeting Monday, school board members voted 3-2 to hire Dennis Muratori as Huron Schools superintendent starting Aug. 1. Muratori is currently assistant superintendent of Sandusky Schools.

“He rose above the other candidates because of his commitment to student learning, ability to engage the community, his drive and his desire to always get better,” board president Scott Slocum said. “We have a lot of confidence he will take us to new levels of success. This is a great opportunity for the district.”

Board members Kevin Asher and John Caporini voted against the hire. They cited their desire to look for an interim superintendent and said their negative votes had nothing to do with Muratori, who is “incredibly qualified.”

Fred Fox, the district’s former superintendent, is appealing his April firing in court. If Fox wins, Huron Schools may be forced to reinstate him as superintendent.

Until the legal battle is over, Asher and Caporini said they believe hiring a permanent replacement is a premature decision.

“There are some circumstances that could happen which might not be good for you or for the district and that concerns us,” Asher said to Muratori at the meeting. “We would rather see that come to finality before we move forward with this.”

Muratori was the only local candidate among 21 applicants.

He has been with Sandusky Schools more than 10 years, including six as Sandusky High School assistant principal of academic and student affairs.

As assistant superintendent, he also served as the district’s chief of staff and transformation officer.

In his application letter, Muratori said he is satisfied with his current job, but as a longtime Huron resident and a parent of Huron Schools students, he felt inclined to apply for the superintendent position.

He attended Monday’s meeting with his wife, Rebecca Muratori, Osborne Elementary School principal, and three children, McKena, 10, and twins Dominic and Marco, 6.

“The opportunity to serve the district in which I choose to live and raise my family is a unique and special one,” Muratori said. “My No. 1 priority is to reach out and build relationships with the community, students, faculty and staff as soon as possible.”

A signed copy of Muratori’s contract, including pay information and employment timeframe, was not available Monday night, board president Scott Slocum said. The Register should have a copy Wednesday or Thursday, once attorneys have finished reviewing it and all parties have signed it.

Sandusky's loss is Huron's gain. Congratulations Denny! Much deserved!

There you go again

Anybody know about his time at the welfare office? I heard there was some shenanigans going on with Muratori.......

Tsu Dho Nimh

What time at the welfare office?

beatstreet

The two no votes may prove to have been the more prudent. Congratulations to Mr. Muratori.

donutshopguy

He was my first guess out of the choice of applicants. Last name ends in a vowel. Search over.

All kidding aside. Good luck. Let the healing begin.

Huron_1969

Congratulations Mr. Muratori !

21 smart people with high profile careers applied for this position and Asher/Caporini advice is it might be a bad move? I'm sure all of the applicants did their homework

Julie R.

Is it just a coincidence that he's a long-time Huron resident and his last name ends in a vowel?

whazup

Great choice! Someone needs to tell the two nay sayers that judges don't tell school districts who to employ. Like someone else posted yesterday, if Fred wins he would be given the money left on his contract. Idiots!

donutshopguy

Italian immigrants settled in Huron many years ago. Many generations have made this little sleepy community on the lake prosper. It was a great place to raise kids and live even though my German ancestry kept me out of the real movers and shakers.

If you don't believe me just ask the guys at the Donut Shop. They have solved world, state and local problems for years. Thanks guys.

Huron_1969

Nothing a great cup of coffee won't fix !

whocares

Dennis is a great person. I am sure he will be good for Huron Schools

erieone

Sad to see him leave Sandusky City Schools, but happy that he got the position he really wanted. Best of luck to you Denny!

bluedot

Congratulations! You will be missed. This could not have happened to a better person. Good luck !

Julie R.

Isn't that what started the Fox fiasco in the first place --- sort of like a family feud amongst the Italians? That's the stories I've heard, anyway. Fox's Kalahari friend giving a ton of business to Caporini's cement company but none to Asher's hardware store ......... Kalahari giving all of their business to Fox's Huron realtor friend to sell condos and none to the other Huron realtors ........ Fox allowing his friend at the bus garage to sell an old school bus for $1 to a friend and when some of Fox's enemies went to the police about it, a former police chief wouldn't do anything because he was related to the one that bought the school bus ......

And now we have another long-time Huronite with a last name ending in a vowel as the new school superintendent.

Huron's no different than Sandusky --- the more things change the more they stay the same.

Tsu Dho Nimh

Julie...I would hardly call him a long-time Huronite. He moved here to raise his family. Get over the vowels, will ya!

Julie R.

I never had any problems with anybody that has a last name ending with a vowel --- with the exception of my mother's Huron attorneys, that is. Nevertheless, everybody around knows that the Huronite Italians (not all, but quite a few) are ALWAYS fighting amongst themselves.

BTW, who is this Sandy Rubino I keep hearing about that works in the joke Erie County prosecutor's office? Don't know if it's true but I heard he runs Erie County.

Tsu Dho Nimh

The website says he is from Cuyahoga Falls, which is Summit County. He's from the Akron area, not Cleveland.

Julie R.

Whatever.

So is it true that he runs Erie County?

Tsu Dho Nimh

I wasn't being snippy so I hope you weren't offended. I don't know how much power he has.

Fromthe419

Denny graduated from Sandusky HS, he is a lifelong resident of the area, must be a mistake on the website. His father used to own Louie's Bar near Cedar Point.

UgtaBkdnMe

Think they were talking about Rubino and the Erie County website. Julie likes to digress and bring in Erie County officials whenever possible.

Darwin's choice

Nice try though, Mother Goose.....

Darkhorse

The school must feel VERY secure that Fox won't be back on the job when they can hire a permanent replacement. If this should lean in the direction of Fox, the school will be in double jeopardy with having to deal with honoring or buying out two contracts especially if Fox settles for his job back. I think the school should have waited until the lawsuit was settled to contract with another superintendent. It might prove to be a real financial burden to the school.

Tsu Dho Nimh

I do not think we need to be worried that Fox will get his job back. The current board will not reinstate him and if it goes to trial, the judge does not have the power to make the board reinstate him. Personally, I do not think he will win but if he does, buying out his contract will be worth it.

Congratulations to Mr. Muratori! He will be a good leader.

donutshopguy

Mr. Muratori and his wife are administrators in the Sandusky School System but feel the school system and or the city are not appropriate for their family. Mr. Orzach the police chief of Sandusky does not live within the city limits.

How many other administrators in public employment in the city of Sandusky do not believe in the city ? What does this tell you?

I have alway believed that city and school officials should live within the boundaries of their employer.

samiam

Neither of the superintendents of Sandusky City Schools or Perkins Schools live in their school districts.

princedenny

Speaking of supers, I heard that Gunner has it written in his contract that he gets a mileage stipend which includes his travel back and forth to work every day. More money being wasted in Perkins.

Tsu Dho Nimh

If that is true, that is just wrong. He knew how far he had to drive when he took the job. No one pays my spouse to drive an hour work. Gunner should either move to Perkins Twp. or suck it up.

Bherrle

Prince,

That is incorrect. Dr. Gunner receives a $300 per month stipend to cover all travel as it relates to his job responsibilities. It is not for his daily commute.

Tsu Dho Nimh

What should people do if one is employed by Norwalk Schools and the spouse is employed by Huron?

donutshopguy

Are both administrators?

Tsu Dho Nimh

In some cases, yes. I understand your argument for residence but I don't think it is always practical. My understanding is that the Muratori's have two children enrolled in the Sandusky School district and the oldest was in the district during her primary grades. There is at least one other administrator in Sandusky who resides in Huron but two older children graduated from Sandusky High.

OH-IO

It's an outdated thought about where someone works when it's just a county or so away. Just because I live in Margaretta doesn't mean I'm not fit to teach in Sandusky. Just because I work at Ford doesn't mean I have to drive one. Performance trumps locale. Be congratulatory for the newly assigned Huron Schools superintendent.

eriemom

"Performance trumps locale." Except that the local economy has parents pulling in markers for their children's job prospects.

Erie Countian

Heck, I don't care if his name ends in a vowel. I only wish we had someone of Muratori's caliber at the helm at Perkins!

Bherrle

Dr. Jim Gunner is very good Supt. and we are lucky to have him. What specifically are your problems with Dr. Gunner?

OH-IO

I agree Erie Countain. You get the best person for the job. Hiring within means you may hire the town's jester. LOL!

Julie R.

What's going on with the Pisanos' law office building, anyway? I see that one side is now Russell Real Estate Services and the other side is up for sale. Didn't the Pisanos' own the entire building? Also, isn't Pisano's son a realtor for Russell Realty?

I'm also curious --- does that Prudential agent still rent the upstairs office in that building like he did back in 2001 and 2002?

Huron_1969

did you overdose on coffee and donuts today?

Princess87

Congratulations

J Cooper

She continues to make it about herself whatever the topic, even the vowels are involved in her conspiracy.

Julie R.

What conspiracy? That a couple of disgruntled fraud power of attorney idiots from Huron ~ with the assistance of my mother's Huron attorneys and a Lorain County attorney (not to mention the Huronite Erie County auditor that authorized it) ~ fraudulently transferred my mother's half to property seven months before her death when she was totally incompetent over to their old Italian Huron stepfather (who already had two strokes and three heart attacks) on a forged power of attorney concealed in the Lorain County Recorder in a criminal plot to make it look like the property was owned jointly ...... and then signed a new fraud TOD that defrauded the 4th beneficiary to my mother's half?

Sorry, but that's a matter of public record, just like it's a matter of public record how the corrupt Erie County courts, knowing the property couldn't be sold through normal channels unless the fraud was acknowledged and the property put back into my mother's probate estate, sold it at a scam sheriff sale through a scam partition action and a fraud preliminary judicial report that falsely stated there were no defects in the title.

Didn't I give the matter of public records numbers that proved it? And as I said before --- what the morons did to property was nothing compared to the rest of it.

Nemesis

Answer the questions, Julie:

-What has your ranting about this here accomplished?
-What do hope it will accomplish?
-What is the outcome you seek?
-How does this behavior help achieve that outcome?

J Cooper

What conspiracy, this never ending one. If you proved it why haven't you done anything about it?

Julie R.

I did but all the jokes did there was refuse to address the proof staring them right in the face. Kind of hard to fight the ones that have the power to illegally misuse their power, you know. In corrupt Erie County they do it to everybody. It's called legal abuse. Those jokes are so arrogant they flaunt right in your face that they don't have to follow the law.

J Cooper

Why didn't you hire an attorney, oops that would force you to prove your wild allegations instead of constantly bringing them up on every unrelated blog.

Julie R.

I did have an attorney. If they ever get the Clerk of Court records online, I'll show you step-by-step how attorneys work in illegal collusion with the Erie County courts.

As for "wild allegations" ---- why don't you ask Retiree how "wild" they are.

J Cooper

There is more than one attorney to choose from if you think all the local attorneys are corrupt, go out of the area if you indeed have proof, but we all know you would rather rant on every other subject and make it about you. For all the years you have been ranting, what good did it do and what have you really done, answer nothing.

whazup

Julie, hasn't your mom been gone for over 5 years? I'm sure Retiree can support your claims but he has moved on. No matter what the blog topic is, you rant about something that happened years ago, out of your control and is not even remotely related to the topic discussed. Let it go. Get some help. Find some peace and enjoy life!

1luckydog

Sorry Julie R. Asher doesn't own a hardware store. (As far as I am aware.) But get your point. And for Pisano's, I am sure if not already done, Ralph Senior has retired. I have much respect for Ralph, and wish him the best.

Julie R.

I didn't say Asher owned a hardware store so I don't where you're coming from there. (*edit: Oh wait, yes I did. Sorry, I made an honest mistake. I meant to say Soweke not Asher)

I also don't really care what your opinion of Ralph Senior is. My question was --- why is one side of that small law office building now Russell Realty and the other side up for sale? Didn't the Pisanos own all of it? My other question ---- does that Prudential agent still rent the upstairs office in that building?

whazup

Pretty sure you did:

Fox's Kalahari friend giving a ton of business to Caporini's cement company but none to Asher's hardware store ......... Kalahari giving all of their business to Fox's Huron realtor friend to sell condos and none to the other Huron realtors ........

J Cooper

What does that have to do with the new superintendent?

Nemesis

Haven't you noticed, with Julie, that's never a concern?

J Cooper

Julie R says on 07/09/2013 @ 10:27AM "Fox's Kalahari friend giving a ton of business to Caporini's cement company but none to Asher's hardware store"

Julie R.

Big deal. I made an honest mistake. I said Asher instead of Soweke. Why are you making such a big deal out of it? That's better than the "mistakes" the jokes in your county, including your county courts, make. I could write a book on their "mistakes." Like how about the sneaky hearing the common pleas court held that all parties weren't notified of to sell property at a scam sheriff sale. (The law says the presence of all parties, with or without an attorney, are required at any and all hearings) Gee, I'll bet it was an "honest mistake." Or how about sending the Judgment Entry on it to an incorrect address and when the post office returned it the next day, they sat on it for 26 days knowing one only has 30 days to file an appeal. Gee, I'll bet it was an "honest mistake."

J Cooper

Again what does this have to do with the new superintendent, answer nothing but she always makes it about her.

Julie R.

You're the one that made a big deal out of me making an honest mistake by saying Asher owned the hardware store instead of Soweke, so don't complain when I tell about some of the intentional mistakes made by your jokes at the courthouse. You should be glad I do. Might prevent them from pulling the same illegal crap off on you someday.

J Cooper

You make it big deal with your fantasy problems when you were disinherited and make it about yourself on every other topic. Give it a rest and move on, you have become the joke with your crap.

Julie R.

If people were disinherited, I don't think the Erie County courts and their attorney clones ~ including, but not limited to, those goon Chicago attorneys for an insurance agent/company ~ would have had to pull off all the scams that they came up with. I mean, geez, selling property with serious defects in the title at a scam sheriff sale to cover up fraud on the 1st elderly owner's half 7 months before her death was bad enough, but even filing and dismissing bogus sham lawsuits in the jurisdiction of Cuyahoga County -- a jurisdiction that had nothing to with the Erie County probate estates of life-long Erie County residents? I even recently found out there was a SECOND bogus sham lawsuit filed and dismissed in Cuyahoga County 13 months after the 1st scam .... and even found out that the crook attorney filed and dismissed it on behalf of two non-clients. I also found out that the one idiot fraud power of attorney from Huron and his snake attorney never paid the court costs on it (almost $500) and it was turned over for collection.

Now I personally ~ if I was that idiot fraud power of attorney ~ I would contact that Cuyahoga County judge and tell her to send the bill to the Erie County Probate Court and make the Erie County taxpayers pay for it. After all, why should the people in Cuyahoga County have to pay for these unlawful "frivolous" scams the courts and attorneys are pulling off, right?

J Cooper

First of all, I am not your sweetheart, my guess is with your problems you don't have one, you might want to consult with Edna on that one. Again off topic, and off in fantasyland.

donutshopwannabe

The real trump card in all of this is if Fox wins Sunshine Law violations. That will void all actions and Fox will be reinstated. They will then have to buy out Muratori. Plus if you read the testimony of Green, Sowecke, and Slocum -- you will see that they admit under oath to numerous Sunshine Law violations. Not good. Don't argue with me -- just go read the testimony.

whazup

Whatever. Go sell some nut dips.

worddrow811

Julie, I think the Pisano office building is owned by Ralph and his sister Edna. Dan Pisano is a different lineage.

Julie R.

Considering how Erie County is into fraud on property ~ especially fraud on the properties belonging to the elderly ~ I sure hope the jokes don't do to this former law office building what the dirt-bags did to my mother and stepfather's property in Huron that they owned, but not jointly, for over 40 years ~ 36 of those years scot-free and clear of a mortgage ~ with never any back taxes owing. I sure hope the new auditor doesn't authorize any disgruntled morons from Huron to transfer the 1st owner's half on a forged power of attorney concealed in another county so the disgruntled morons (with the assistance of attorneys) can defraud one of the beneficiaries on a new fraud TOD Deed seven months before the 1st owner's death.

If they do, the corrupt Erie County courts and their attorney buds are going to have to come up with the same devious illegal plot --- they're going to have to sell the property with serious defects in the title at a substantial discount at a scam sheriff sale through a scam partition action and a fraud preliminary judicial report to a realtor and one of the fraud power of attorneys to use as rental property.

So keep watch on the paper. See if the clowns at the courthouse are selling any property in Huron through a partition action. If they do, you'll know the property was involved in fraud.

J Cooper

Once again, off topic, how surprising.

Common Sense

This article is about Dennis Muratori and his new job as the superintendent of Huron City Schools. Let's keep the focus where it belongs. Congratulations, Mr. Muratori.

1luckydog

I am sure Mr. Muratori is an excellent choice for a super. Where they went wrong, was to hire a super before we know what is going on with Mr. Fox. If he is to be reinstated, we are now, as citizens, paying for two supers. Why our community is not seeing what is going on, is beyond me. We will be "bankrupt" in our school system in the next few years. Back to where we were when Mr. Fox came in and dug us out. There is no way any levy, new or renewal, is going to pass! Changes have to be made NOW to help avoid what could be an end to our Great School System! The Three have to "Suck it up", and move on.....

Tsu Dho Nimh

Mr. Fox is not going to be reinstated unless the board votes to reinstate him. Judges do not tell school districts who to hire or fire. IF the court determines that Fox was wrongly terminated, then he will be entitled to the balance of his contract. Asher likes to her himself talk and thinks he sound important when he tries feed us his bolognie.
