The Volunteer Center of Erie County has announced Hannah Hayberger as the April winner of the Youth for Excellent Service (YES!) Award. She was nominated by her grandfather, Joseph Hayberger, for her volunteer service with Friends of Firelands Positive People.

Hayberger, daughter of Kerry and Troy Hayberger, began her volunteerism at an early age at Osborne Elementary School, where she created beaded bracelets to raise funds to purchase footballs, kickballs and basketballs for the children at VOA Crossroads Shelter. The endeavor was so successful her grandparents, Joe and Kathy, encouraged her to make more bracelets to raise funds for Friends Firelands Positive People scholarship award winners. She raised $1,500 for three $500 scholarships. She is continuing her volunteerism in hopes of raising another $1,000 to contribute.

Hayberger is a seventh-grader at Sandusky Middle School, where she is involved in orchestra and sports and excels at academics. Hayberger is a very humble leader and loves to do things for other people. Her family is very proud of her. As the April YES! Winner, Hannah will receive a certificate and $50 Visa Card. The Youth for Excellent Service (YES!) Award is supported by the Buckeye Cable System.

Nominations of qualified volunteers under age 21 for the YES! Award can be made through The Volunteer Center, 300 Central Ave., Sandusky; 419-627-0074 or 1-800-VOLUNTEER. This is a very nice article, Hannah, and you have your parents and grandparents to thank for your being an excellent person of great character. Well done and best wishes for a life full of wonderful things. You are a shining star and those who know you are truly the lucky ones in calling you friend, daughter or granddaughter.
