Add Alice James to the list of Perkins High School coaches to earn Hall of Fame recognition.

She became the sixth head coach in the school’s history to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for their respective sport.

“Its a great honor and a testimony to the kids,” said the veteran Perkins girls golf coach, who is a graduate of Sandusky High and a 28-time women’s golf champion at Plum Brook Country club.

She received the award May 5 in Columbus at the annual spring rules meeting clinic for golf coaches.

“I know I wouldn’t have received this award without our girls winning the state championship (2012) and I’m the first woman up there, and that’s what I like” said James who joins five men on the honor wall at the school.

A coach for the past 15 years, James’ teams have compiled a record of 129-37 with five SBC championships.

Her teams qualified for the district on nine occasions and James was named the Ohio Golf Coach of the Year in 2011 and the Northwest District coach of the year in 2011 and again in 2012 when the Pirates won the Division II district title. They claimed their first-ever girl state crown the following week in Columbus.

James has served as a counselor at Meadowlawn Elementary (grades 2-5) the past 22 years.

While she was inducted into the Ohio Association of Golf Coaches Hall of Fame, James joins the other coaches in the HOF.

John Hinton (cross country) was inducted in 1994, Frank Laudonia (boys golf) in 1995, Jim Hauser (track and field) in 1998, Joe Groscost (swimming) in 2000 and Steve Finn (wrestling) in 2006.
