Virginia AG joins fight against state’s gay marriage ban

“It’s time for the commonwealth to be on the right side of history and the right side of the law”

Gay marriage moved closer to gaining its first foothold in the South when Virginia’s attorney general said Thursday the state’s ban on same-sex matrimony is unconstitutional and he will join the fight to get it struck down.

“It’s time for the commonwealth to be on the right side of history and the right side of the law” newly elected Democrat Mark Herring said in a state that fiercely resisted school integration and interracial marriage in the ’50s and ’60s.

Republicans accused Herring of shirking his duty to defend the state’s laws after less than two weeks on the job, while gay rights activists exulted over the latest in a string of victories — this one in a conservative and usually hostile region of the country.

“It’s a nice day to be an American from Virginia” Tom Shuttleworth, one of the lawyers challenging the ban, said in an email.

The move reflects the rise of a new Democratic leadership in Virginia and illustrates how rapidly the political and legal landscape on gay marriage in the U.S. is shifting.

Bottom Line

No kidding. This doesn't need to be a headline six days a week.

Jesus explicitly defined marriage as being between one man and one woman. (Matthew 19:4-6)

No matter what society may legislate, homosexuality is a sin. It always has been and it always will be.

What Jesus said or didn't say has no bearing on the law. We are not a theocracy. When are you going to get that not only do other people in this country have different religious beliefs, they have just as much right to have those beliefs, and the law does not represent Christianity?

You must have me confused with someone who is worldly and only concerned with the rights of sinners to do whatever they please.

I will spend my days obeying Christ’s command to be salt and light to a lost and dying world. A work that every Christian can and must give themselves to.

Informed

But what you fail to realize is that you are not being a light to the world. You are, in fact, turning people off of Christianity instead of guiding them to it.
If you are not concerned with the legal system in America, then you have no business posting on a forum that deals with that. If you want to preach, you are on the wrong board.

Au contraire, I fully realize that intolerant, fanatical homosexual activists like yourself, are trying to force Christians underground so that our faith and our values do not impact the public sector.

“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”

As a Christian, the only thing that matters, is what God the Father thinks – not what the liberal media thinks, not what the world in general thinks and last but not least, not what you think.

Informed

First of all, the only thing I am intolerant of is bigotry and hatred. I respect your right to have your faith. I do not respect what you think is your right to tell others what to do and how to think. And I am not an activist of any kind. Despite what you think, I, too, am a Christian. I just respect the rights of others to have their own faith. I, unlike you, try to direct people to Christianity through my actions, not my preaching and acting holier than thou. I am in no way trying to force anyone underground.
The only thing that should impact the public sector is the law. Not any one religion. If you cannot understand that our laws do not and should not reflect Christianity only, then, again, you have no business posting on a board about the law.

“I do not respect what you think is your right to tell others what to do and how to think” Yet here you are, repeatedly telling me what to do and how to think. My friend, you are a textbook example of a hypocrite.

You aren’t kidding anyone, just yourself. There are many in hell, who once thought of themselves as a Christian.

The true model of a family was taught by Our Savior Jesus Christ: “From the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother; and shall cleave to his wife.” (Mark 10:6-7).

Unlike hypocrites like yourself who proclaim to be a Christian, yet accept this perverted lifestyle in spite of God’s clear teachings against it, true Christians who speak the truth about homosexuality, do so with their best interest at heart. Not only in this life, but for the life to come.

Informed

When did I tell you what to do or how to think, except when it comes to preaching? I only tell you what to do or how to think when it is directed at me. You, on the other hand, tell everyone what to do and how to think when it has nothing to do with you.

You say you are a Christian, yet Jesus’s definition of marriage causes you much turmoil? You say you are a Christian, but you forbid me from preaching the Word?

2 Timothy 4:2-4 Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

Dr. Information

The gays went stop until they have every state legally sinning.

Informed

We are all sinners.
