Huron board fires back at Fox conspiracy claim

A faction of Huron school board members are firing back at fellow board member Kevin Asher's claim about a grand conspiracy against embattled superintendent Fred Fox.

Nov 20, 2012

Board member Kevin Asher and attorney Patrick Murray, who represents Fox, have previously filed court documents accusing the majority of the board members of holding a personal vendetta against Fox.

In court documents filed this past week, however, Fox's opponents said any notion of a conspiracy theory is not only false, but also irrelevant.

"Asher's brief includes more than a dozen pages of irrelevant, speculative, false and defamatory conspiracy theories masquerading as 'facts,'" stated documents filed by Drew Legando, attorney for board members Tim Sowecke and Donna Green. "Its outlandish claims have nothing to do with the issues presented by the motions pending before the court."

Wired, none of this controversy is being conducted in the school buildings. The kids are doing just fine. Maybe you should worry a little more about your own school district's education. But thanks for your concern.
This whole mess started because Fox's huge ego made him think he was above everyone else and could do what he wanted when he wanted. So because it's ugly (and these things almost always are), it should just be ignored or dropped? I don't think so.
If you want to point the blame finger, you left out this newspaper.

For once, AMEN Informed.

Don't leave out the instigator.

how many teens or tweens were at ANY of those meetings? How many kids know of any of this? Perhaps your smaller kids don't know but I will lay odds your older ones do.

I can't speak for everyone, but I have kids at HHS, and they and their friends couldn't care less about this. Kids have their own drama, and I'm always amazed at how little they know or care about adult drama. I don't believe any kids attended any meetings, unless you were there a saw otherwise? In the beginning, some kids read the salacious details but have since lost interest. Maybe other parents have different experiences. I'm speaking from my experience, not speculation.

Tsu Dho Nimh

Young people have not been at these meetings. Anyone who has been in attendance will verify this.

It is okay that you answered this question, Tsu, because it appears to be open to anyone.

It never ceases to amaze me that young adults will find online the things you think they do not know. Every talk to some young adults (ages 15*18) they know things you do not think they know and pay attention to things you don't think they pay attention to. My husband and I had the privilege of having five of them at our house overnight one night: two from Huron, two from Perkins three from Margaretta. WOW, what they know is shocking and they know a LOT more than given credit for. They understand even more. NEVER underestimate them. NEVER. How they see their parents and adults today is a shocking wake up call. I must say, they see all of us with eyes that are frighteningly more adult than we give them credit for.

They know much more than we did at their age...much more. And they see it with an intelligence that we didn't have at their ages. They talk with at TO one another. They hold their values to be very HIGH and very valuable to themselves. They are INGRAINED within themselves and their minds are solid. They know what they want and they pretty much know where they are going by age 15 and 16. We talked about all kinds of things.

You know, they will tell grandparents things they WONT tell parents. That is a fact. Especially when they know it isn't going any further. We have a pact. We know more about them than their parents will ever know. As long as it isn't against the law, won't harm them or hurt stays right here. But these kids are smart. My Huron kids know all about this mess. ALL about it. More than the adults and they do not like it. In fact, they think it stinks. They are aware of what is going on and they are ashamed of it. they are unhappy with it as are their friends.

Most of the kids feel that way with few exceptions. They think their parents are WRONG for following the board. But they won't tell YOU that.
So for what it is worth. Your kids do know and they won't tell you that you are wrong....out of fear. They just say they don't care any more because they have heard enough. How sad is that one.

It is amazing how much you know (tongue implanted firmly in cheek) about all kids based on the 2 you had at your house. That you believe you have a handle on what most kids think, with few I can only speak for my kids, though - no one elses. It is amzazing that you can ALSO speak for my kids. You actually know that they disagree with me (how do you know they even know my opinion on it?) but won't tell me out of fear. Wow. I'm speechless.

I see where you could take it that you think I was talking about YOUR kids when I am not. I was talking about Huron kids in general. Many of the "Huron kids" understand exactly what is going on and will just express what their parents want to hear because they are sick and tired of hearing about it. That is what I meant to say. NOT specifically YOUR kids.

Believe me, the older kids in Huron see a lot more than you adults over there want them to see. They want this "adult nonsense" (I am quoting what was told to me) to just stop and go away. They are pretty embarassed by the adult nonsense. They feel silly that so much is being made over it. "just fire him and be done with it" is what I was told. So you see, they, to, want it over and done with. I have to agree. This was handled badly. No big deal, but the so called adults in this mess sure did a bang up, cracker jack job of turning a simple affair into a mess. And you sure got a lot of help from the SR. Great job.
Right or wrong, your board didn't do ITS job. You all have to live with that one.

So I apologize if my writing implied that I know what YOUR kids think. I don't and never will. If you say they think like you, then so be it. I just know what the two over here said about them and their friends and they do not agree, and neither do their friends. They think this is an embarrassmaent to their schools and their town. They are not happy with it and they wish it would just stop. Especially the seniors who are looking forward to graduation this coming spring. They hope this ends by then. They don't want to deal with this mess at that time. Can you blame them?

Just fire him and get it over with is what A LOT of people think, so I'm not surprised some kids think it as well. My perception, though, is that they spend little or no time talking about it amongst themselves, unless adults bring it up. And I never said my kids think like me. In fact, they don't know what I think, so if they do think like me, its purely coincidence. My opinion, and my opinion only, is that they don't perceive this as a big issue that's getting in the way of their lives, which are far more interesting and important (in their minds). What's going on in this comment section is not a reflection what's going on in kid-world.

Thst is YOUR opinion. Mine differs greatly given the conversation. But you have every right to your opinion. I will respect that. Enough said.

I disagree. The smaller kids that knew Mr. Fox have no idea that he's not there right now and when they see Mr. Fernbaugh now they don't know who he is. How are they supposed to be taught to respect authority when the authority figures are being disregarded. Then there are children that are falling through the cracks because of staff members not doing their jobs to the fullest and why should they? Everybody is pre-occupied with this mess.

Good points, RUK !

Julie R.

All the attorneys involved in this, I was becoming a bit confused as to who went with who, especially after I saw that the Akron law firm of Hannah, Campbell, & Powell were involved. (I have a real good TRUE story I could tell about the 'conspiracy' in the court of Binette and a snake attorney from that firm that occurred 3 days after I filed complaints in the Eeerie County probate court against a bunch of Huronites and a Lorain County attorney) Anyway, I think I have it straight now.

Asher and Murray are saying that the firing of Fred Fox was a vendetta by 2 of the board members. The vendetta stems from --- when Fox was with the Milan school district, he reported Coach Legando's teacher son for having a relationship with a student and as a result the son lost his teacher's license. Two of the board members behind the firing of Fox are related to the Legandos. Donna Green is Coach Legando's ex-sister-in-law and the aunt to the coach's son and Tim Soweke is an uncle by marriage ..... and now the attorney that is representing Soweke and Green is Drew Legando, who may (or may not be) Coach Legando's nephew.

You have to admit, it sure does sound fishy. Could even explain why Fox's affair was exposed to the public.

What a mess you Huronites have caused! (not that it surprises me any)

Julie R-
You left out Scott Slocum, board president. He's affiliated with the other 2 Stooges and some say it's because of his being 'blackmailed' into it because of something he did to get fired from his job.

Hahaha.. This is truly the Jerry Springer Show !

I agree with all who have said that someone needs to worry about the Huron students' education. Luckily someone is. The Huron teachers and administrators are doing their jobs in the usual manner.

It all goes back to a simple fact. This whole situation should have been handled in executive session with the results being given in open session to the press. This is not 'sweeping under the rug'.. This is the legal way that it was supposed to done. If this protocal had been followed, I for one, would not have one post on here.

PS.. Drew Legando is Tony Legando, Sr's nephew. Am I allowed to state that here, Attorney, Drew ? Or are you going to run to the Register and have that remark strikken from the record ? (The actual 'trial' is not going to be this easy, DL).

Tsu Dho Nimh

Slocum was not black mailed into anything. Out of all the the allegations in this entire mess, that has to be the dumbest thing I have heard. Mr. Slocum, I believe, has always been about doing the right thing. However, in the past he was out numbered by "derierre kissing" members that thought the sun rose and set in Fred Fox's behind. Now we have three members who are willing to do what the others would not. Wonder how much money the district paid to Huron Cement during the last 18 years? Some years were over $10,000 and some years as little as $1,500. Nonetheless, it was ILLEGAL the entire time. Pull the records and you will see that he did NOT sell goods and services at cost. Asher plays by the same crooked rules that that Fox and some others play by and his loyalty goes back to his adolescent years. I'm guessing Nancy Bulea just had a huge crush on the

Wow, TDN..
All of that came out of no where.

Scott Slocum has lost his job and for a reason we don't know. Why don't you spend a little of your research to get to the bottom of that.

Tsu Dho Nimh

I do not care why Mr. Slocum lost his job. If you can show me that his work performance with any of his employers is connected to the situation (such as violating ethic laws, taking advantage of his position as a board member), then I would be curious. If you do not have any information, then please drop the topic.

Sold, since you are the one making these statements, why don't YOU do some research. You may just find this to be a total lie.

The principal at Shawnee school, who is the SR woman of the year, is doing a great job. Think how much better of a job she could have done if Superintendent Fox had not used her as an excuse to cover his affair during school hours. She would be doing her job rather than in court to protect her integrity and good name.

Ακόμη Sold σχετ...

If not for Fred Fox, said principal would not have a job in Huron and would be doing a great job somewhere else. Maybe that's what she wishes now, but Fred Fox hired her because she was a capable administrator not as his aliby.

I truly feel bad that THAT is what people thought and gossiped about.
**Addition.. Please read above statement again ! People gossiped about Shawnee's principal having an affair with Fred Fox. That is a bad thing because of the way it made her feel. I am not overlooking that, but like I also previously said: She got the job from Fred Fox. He believed in her and now it shows that he was right.

agree with shopguy. Huron schools are running like a well oiled machine right now. its a confident group of people and the kids are still atop erie county in the testing results. our honor roll students are at an all time high, its going very well. I dont care what happened with the Legando's. The point being is the BOE's 3 amigos steered up some dirt that they found while searching thru school emails. If he does this at home on his yahoo or hotmail or aol or whatever, if he leaves the principal alone. if he keeps it all to himself. he doesnt have any of this mess. Sold, he has nobody but himself to point the fingers at.

Ακόμη Sold σχετ...

I'm also happy with the school's smooth running as it just illustrates what a job Fred Fox has done putting it all in place. Fred Fox is good at what he does and that hand full of email should have warrented a private reprimand. That really is all the Amigos have.. Obviously Fred wasn't hiding them ?

And.. He did nothing with the principal besides what people assumed. Truly sad.

he obviously was good at what he did, his wife didnt even know! imagine that Sold. and what makes you think what he did just "warrented" a reprimand? in most jobs you'd be fired for that, including his.

what wife EVER knows her husband is having an affair? What purpose did this board have for embarrassing this family like this? Why didn't they just fire him after discussing this in executive session as prescribed by law? Why put his whole family through this in public if not to publically humiliate him and his family is just collateraly damage? Why?

Tsu Dho Nimh

If Fred Fox did not want his family humiliated, then he should not conducted the affair during the standard 7am - 4pm hours and should not have used school email. He has had enough master's level courses and professional development that has thoroughly covered behaviors and consequences of an educator's behavior on school time and with school equipment. Please stop blaming the 3 board members for addressing his behavior. As a public official, the citizens have a right to know what he does during his professional time.

There you go again

Maybe Fox was retaliating from his wife's affair at her place of work ( the former Delphi)!!!!! Gees, what a soap opera in that family.

That may very well be, buy what reason did the board have for the embarrassment? It appears to be an effort to humiliate pure and simple. This is all wrong. I still maintain a simple firing is sufficient unless there is an ulterior motive. I began to think there was one after listening to all this come out. Boards dont' do this. Least ways none I have ever seen and I have lived in three different states. Nope this is something else. You have a big problem here. No wonder he got a lawyer.

Tsu Dho Nimh

Apparently you do not remember the firing of Dr. Monaghan in your own district around 12 years ago. The woman was never given an evaluation, never was given any feedback about her job performance and BAM, out of no where she was fired! If I recall, her husband is an attorney and unfortunately for her, she was just stuck with the board's decision. Personally, I always thought she was a victim of the board and that they had a personal motive. St. Mary's was lucky to get her.

OOOOOO, going to have to whip out warning number two ! Sold was talking to SR. One more butting in will cause us to report you to the moderators !
