Brandon Green, 28, of 200 block of York Street was heading east on Ohio 20, just passing the Ohio 4 intersection on his 1999 green Yamaha motorcycle, said Trooper Steve Drew of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Norwalk post.

He slowed down to turn left, possibly to turn onto Beckstein Road, when he was hit from behind by a 2006 red Chrysler Pacifica driven by Michael Knauch, 33, of Collins. Green was thrown into the grassy median.

The Pacifica travelled about 400 feet before coming to a stop, its front end smashed and air bags deployed. Green’s family, including his brother, sister and father rushed to the scene. Katherine Smothers, Green’s aunt, lives in a farmhouse just down from where the crash occurred.

“I just told him we’re here — we’re here to support him. He said, ‘good,’” Smothers said. Green, still considered a novice motorcyclist, was not wearing a helmet, Drew said. His family does not understand why. “He usually does,” Smothers said.

They also can not understand how Knauch did not see Green. “Witnesses said his blinker was on and he has LED lights on his motorcycle that were all lit up,” Smothers said. Knauch was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance.

He and a passenger in the vehicle, Brenda Martin, 46, of Collins, were taken by a EMS unit to Fisher Titus Medical Center.

Green and Martin were still being evaluated Sunday evening and conditions were not available, hospital staff said.

There was no information available on Knauch.

Check the driver's cell phone records.
I'll bet he was texting or otherwise distracted.

She said she didn't see me, brite yellow bike, yellow helmet,... I couldn't drive for several years because of seizures due to a head injury, and now I am disabled.. sad....
