A three-car garage and multiple vehicles were destroyed in a fire early Wednesday morning in Oak Harbor, police said. No one was injured, Portage fire Chief Mike Almendinger said.

The garage and two cars inside, located in the 300 block of N. Locust St., were all destroyed.

The garage and vehicles belonged to James Young, whose age was not immediately available, authorities said. Almendinger said crews are still investigating the cause, but he believes the fire started from a new wood burner recently placed inside the garage.

The structure itself is still standing, but it’s a complete loss.

One vehicle was a 1990s Buick, while the other was 1990s Chevy Caprice, Almendinger said.

Portage firefighters were dispatched to the scene shortly after midnight, and they quickly called for backup. Trucks and manpower were also supplied by Carroll Township, Rocky Ridge and Erie Township fire departments.

The crew of about 30 firefighters battled the blaze until shortly after 2 a.m., Almendinger said.
