A Sandusky man was arrested Tuesday afternoon for throwing items around the house while his children were nearby.

Matthew Denney, 36, 1900 block Clinton St., was charged with child endangering, assault and felony domestic violence.

Denney started arguing with the mother of his children when she left their 1-year-old daughter in the bathtub while she answered the door for him, according to a Sandusky police report.

Denney grew angry and allegedly pushed the woman, then knocked a rack of dishes onto the floor, breaking them. He hurled a microwave at the woman while the children were in an adjacent room, the report said.

During the melee, Denney took photos of the mess and said he was calling police.

When officers arrived, Denney claimed the woman threw the kitchen items around, but the order of the photos he took did not align with his story, the report said.

The woman alleged ongoing abuse, mentioned scratches on her wrist and a strained spine from previous assaults, the report said.

Denney is at the Erie County jail without bond.

His domestic violence charge was upgraded to a felony because he had two prior domestic violence convictions.

Never leave a one year old alone in the tub, but with his anger, I can see why she answered the door. Though wrapping a towel around the baby, and opening the door would have been the right approach.

JMOP, seeing that EVERYTHING he told the police was a lie, her leaving the child in the bathtub, probably was also. This guy is a piece of work, the reason he beats women is because he would never be able to beat a man. He's one of the biggest punks in town. Always has been, always will be.

He sure does sound like it.

I totally agree. Matt has always been scared of fighting a guy. He use to be good friends with my brother. He use to run his mouth but when someone wanted to fight him he would run.

Sounds like he needs a good dose of his own medicine.
