High court won't block early voting in Ohio

The Supreme Court is siding with Democrats in refusing to block early voting in the battleground state of Ohio.

The court on Tuesday refused a Republican request to get involved in a dispute over early voting in the state on the three days before Election Day.

The campaign of President Barack Obama and Ohio Democrats sued the state over changes in Ohio law that took away the three days of voting for most people, but made exceptions for military personnel and Ohioans living overseas. Democrats say nearly 100,000 people voted in the three days before the election in 2008.

A federal appeals court ruling reinstated voting on the weekend before the election and Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, a Republican, appealed that ruling to the Supreme Court.

Thanks for defending us while you were in the Mess Hall, washing the pots and pans. Our hero!

just wondering how people ever voted in one day 20 years ago! if people are so busy today that they can not take the time to vote on one day then maybe they shouldn't vote. with absentee balloting available early voting is uncalled for.

ladydye_5

With the Electoral College does it even matter. the MAJORITY vote doesn't win the election

tk

Maybe this issue can finally be put to rest but don't count on it. Husted has wasted enough money trying to supress the vote when he should be encouraging people to vote.

The Big Dog's back

I think it should be a paid day off.

Randy_Marsh

You think everyday should be a paid day off, Thats why you keep voting for Obama who is making your dream come true.

coasterfan

Republicans have yet to put forth one good reason why early voting should not be allowed. Their goal is to stifle anything that might cause more Democrats to vote, and this is one of many examples of that.

ladydye_5

What reason do Democrats have that they NEED to have early voting? I do NOT remember all the early voting and other BS when I was younger. There were absentee ballots for military and home bound people. Other than that you went to the polls on election day. Now you can vote for WEEKS before. I do NOT understand it.

The Big Dog's back

I believe it when you say you don't understand.

JACKEL

I understand, it is hard to get around to all those precincts in one day.The Libs have dogs in Va.Dead people registered plus children. You don't really think you elect the president. This last Bozo wasn't and isn't a citizen that's why his record's are sealed at Columbia. He went to school there as a Foreign Student.First of all he couldn't have taken down The Clinton's if he were not a plant by his King from Saudi,Why do think he bowed to him?If they had really got Osama his family would have never left him be buried at sea.You people are as stupid as the German's were in !933.If you re elect him you deserve what happens to you !

coasterfan

Sorry to hear that you're one of the wingnut Birthers, Jackal. In your alternate version of reality, proven facts don't exist. As extreme as most Tea Party folks are to mainstream America, you're even further off the deep end. Obama wasn't elected? Obama didn't get Osama? You also aren't sure what apostrophes are for...

JACKEL

You can't win an argument with stupidity because they have probably been stupid longer, that applies to you.You can't recognize when you are being led to the slaughter like a pig. When all your rights are taken away by the this Arab Commie, then you will be looking around like the Germans in 1945 saying"Gee what happened "I hope you aren't a Christian because you will have to die like they are in Turkey before long.Well that was really stupid of me,you can't be a christian and a Lib.There is an old saying,"10% of the people do 90% of the work and the strong protect The Weak" All you you people that never paid a price don't know to protect your freedom.Try to find any reliable info on a Barrack Hussein Obama at Columbia, there is none because he was there under his foreign student name.

Wow, you are off your rocker, or maybe off your meds. Wow.

Riskkbreaker

I think I understand it perfectly. Everywhere I look on the internet, it says "VOTE EARLY FOR BARRACK," or "VOTE EARLY FOR OBAMA."
If you read between the lines, it says "Vote early for Barrack based on the television ads instead of hearing out the debates first!"
Complete with scare tactics like "Vote early to make sure your vote is counted."

coasterfan

For true scare tactics, view any Romney TV ad. "America can't afford another 4 years under Obama". Really? What America can't afford is another 4 years of BushRomney economics that CAUSED the recession. As said on one of my favorite Facebook pages: We survived Bush. You will survive Obama.

This article is about assuring that all people get to vote fairly and legally. Only one party does things that stand in the way of that goal, and it's the Republican Party.

JACKEL

Yea,you are right,I forgot they have The Black Panthers,The Dead voters,The dogs and children registered in Va.

Riskkbreaker

Yes, it had to be the Republicans who are to blame, right? It couldn't be the Left Wing who is known, historically, to look down upon Capitalism with distaste.
They wouldn't be attempting an economic coup http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clo... (over the past century and moreso most recently) to replace Capitalism with a more Left Wing-friendly economic system, say Marxism, for instance..no, not them.
Not the Democrat party that started a war against its own countrymen (the Civil War) because they did not want women and minorities to be able to get on their own two feet. Couldn't be.

Surely the Democrats Dodd/Frank didn't cause the recession by blocking Bush from regulating Fannie and Freddie. Naw. /end sarcasm phase

After what happened on 9/11, you cannot bring up the war that the Democrats also voted in favor of and voted to continue funding (and which Obama, as President, has expanded).

Bush versus Obama. Try debunking this. http://www.commentarymagazine.co...
At this point, with Ron Paul out of the race..I would vote for Bush in a heartbeat. Read that article thoroughly and then try to recall what your life was like before the Dems took control of Congress in the 2006 elections.

To any Democrat who might read this, please do not take it personally. If you know that you are not someone who supports such things, then I am obviously not referring to you.
However, with the stories that some tell about the Right Wing, these things had to be suggested/noted in reply.

iamrevolutionary

Early voting is necessary as many folks WORK, and work long hours. Some may not be able to take time off on Tuesday, so need to vote on a different day..
I believe that election day should be a national holiday, that way EVERYONE can vote! And if the co. makes their employees work on that day, the co. must allow time off to vote...
It is that important that all can vote, and should be treated as such..

coasterfan

Well said, iam!

mikel

most polling precints are open from, at least, 7am to 730pm. that should be plenty of time. but, if it is not, and you are so he!! bent on voting feel free to use a vacation day, personal time, comp time or call in sick.

if there was a "voters" holiday and people would get time off from work they still would not vote and cry like babies. plus, most of the prez o's supporters aren't working right now anyways. this system worked for a hundred years just fine.

luvblues2

If Billy Clinton could run again, he'd be a shoe-in.

JACKEL

Yea he'd be a blow in,then we would have another Housing Crash !
