A fast-food manager was arrested Friday for allegedly stealing more than $500 from the restaurant’s safe and using it to buy heroin, food and cigarettes.

Samantha Flesher, 31, 7000 block Joppa Road, was charged with felony safecracking and misdemeanor theft.

Flesher is a manager at Taco Bell on Ohio 60, just south of Vermilion. She left a note for one of her shift supervisors on Thursday morning, indicating someone else had counted the store’s cash for the day, and the supervisor should use the extra time for employee training, according to an Erie County deputy’s report.

Adhering to standard procedure, the woman counted the money anyway, and came up $515.03 short.

When the supervisor called Flesher about the missing money, Flesher allegedly said she had a problem and was using dope again.

Flesher went on to say she’d pay everything back on Friday, asking the woman not to contact Taco Bell’s “area coach,” the report said.

The employee did so anyway, and deputies soon reviewed surveillance footage. It showed Flesher and her boyfriend entering the store well before the business opened. It appeared as if the boyfriend was acting as a lookout, the report said.

The area coach told deputies Flesher used her safe code to drain the safe, and had also taken money from cash drawers, the report said.

When deputies arrested Flesher on Friday, she admitted to the thefts, saying she spent the cash on heroin, food and cigarettes, Erie County Chief Deputy Jared Oliver said.

Flesher is being held at the Erie County jail.
