Ottawa County deputies said a suspicious man approached a boy on Ohio 163 in Portage Township on Friday morning.

At about 10:11 a.m., a man driving a blue Ford sedan approached the boy and asked him if he wanted a ride, deputies said. The child refused and the vehicle sped off.

The suspect was described as a white man in his 40s, with long brown hair and a brown beard. Anyone with information can call the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office at 419-734-4404.

What was a "boy" doing out of school and alone?

waiver day (whatever that is). no school.

163 in Portage Township is kind of a busy road for a kid to be walking on and I don't believe there are sidewalks either. It was probably more of a concerned citizen more than anything, but how old is this boy anyway?!?

am waiting for the newsletter herald in PC to give more info or the police fb page but actually Perry St is 163 in Portage township also and has sidewalks so it could have been there. 163 is pretty long. if it was out farther toward Walmart then no there are no sidewalks.

Is this a crime? Just curious if anyone knows.

It's a crime if he was in fact trying to lure the boy into his car. There has been no follow up information on this story in PC so far.
