Derrick Brown, 48, of Grand Prairie, Texas, was charged with receiving stolen property, marijuana possession, no driver’s license and improper turn.
Officers pulled the car over after it made an illegal wideleft turn onto Perkins Avenue at about 10 p.m. Thursday, the report said. When officers checked the vehicle’s registration through a database, they learned it was stolen from Georgia, and Brown was flagged as the car’s likely driver, the report said.
Brown also had an open arrest warrant for stealing the car, but Sandusky police were unable to serve the warrant, the report said. Brown said the car belonged to his girlfriend and he was in the process of buying it when he got behind on the “note,” the report said.
Officers seized the Nissan, and they plan to hold it until the owner is able to retrieve it. Brown’s passenger was released at the scene because she was not involved in the alleged theft.
Officers also found several suspected marijuana joints and a package of “potpourri” inside the vehicle, so they charged Brown accordingly. He remains in the Erie County jail.
