Officers charged Sheldon L. Murphy, 18, 6500 block Portland Road with burglary — a second-degree felony — in addition to two counts of criminal damaging, obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

Police received a call around 9 a.m. Saturday about someone trying to enter an unoccupied home within the 300 block of E. Follett St.

An officer then allegedly spotted Murphy crouching down beside the house, apparently trying to hide from authorities.

Murphy ran away, but Officer Troy Dillinger quickly caught up to him.

A witness told informed officers Murphy tried to smash a back door window open.

Murphy, according to a related police report, then ripped open the screen to the kitchen window and went inside.
