Paul Bratton, 37, 6100 block Mason Road, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon. When he showed up at Sandusky Municipal Court at about 10 a.m., an employee operating the metal detector uncovered Bratton’s spring-release “Extreme Survival” knife, according to a Sandusky police report.

Bratton accompanied his wife to Meigs Street that day to talk to court officials about an undisclosed matter, the report said. Bratton told police he carried the blade as a pocket knife and thought nothing of keeping it in his pocket.

Officers told him his knife was typically used as a weapon and not as a tool, the report said. Officers confiscated the knife, issued Bratton his charge then took him directly over to the courtroom.

A spring assist knife is NOT ILLEGAL, trying to take it into a courthouse or restricted area now that's a different story
