At 5 p.m. Saturday, Sandusky police learned of two accidents that had occurred just moments apart near Cleveland Road. The first happened on Cedar Point Drive, when the boy’s Chevrolet Malibu rearended a Mazda and caused it to strike a third vehicle in front of it, according to a police report.
One driver asked the boy to pull into a nearby parking lot to exchange insurance information. He pulled in, but drove off before the driver could talk to him.
A short while later, the boy allegedly caused a second crash at Cleveland Road and Avondale Street, before driving off yet again.
Cedar Point police officers soon located the car and its driver near the amusement park’s entrance.
While slurring his words, the boy asked officers what their probable cause was to search him and the car, the report said. The teen clenched his hand, slid it under his leg and tensed up when police yanked him from the vehicle.
Back at the police station, the boy failed sobriety tests and refused to provide a urine sample for chemical analysis.
The teenager told one officer he was on Adderall, and another that he was tripping on acid, the report said.
Officers found a plastic bag coated with unidentified residue in the boy’s pocket. If it tests positive for an illegal substance, the child could receive an additional charge.
The boy was taken to the Erie County Detention Center.
