Natassia Adams, 18, of the 3500 block of Liberty Ave., was charged with cruelty to a companion animal, a firstdegree misdemeanor.

A tipster contacted Vermilion police at about 5:30 p.m. Friday to report a possible case of animal abuse on Liberty Avenue, the report said. In Adams’ yard, officers found a large white dog confined to a wire cage, sheltered only by a ripped silver tarp that had a large hole in the side.

Piles of feces covered the floor, forcing the dog into a small corner to avoid sitting in the mess, the report said.

The dog had no food, and its water dish appeared old and contained dirt, the report said.

Adams told police her dog was recently fed, and she had scooped up the feces just three days prior, the report said. Adams did agree the animal’s cage was in need of repair and said she would fix its deficiencies.

She took the dog inside for the night. Officers issued her charges and released her on her own recognizance.

That dog needs to be taken from her IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

She should not be aloud to own a animal if she don't know how to take care of them

Don't worry, she will soon a pile of entitlement babies to cover the costs of cleaning up the feces.

I hate people that get dogs and then just leave them outside no matter the conditions. I hate those even more that neglect and don't feed or water their pets regularly. I agree that she should not be allowed to have that dog any longer or any other dogs for that matter. I had a neighbor that did this and two of the three dogs I was aware of were surrendered to the humane society after I called but I don't know what happened to the 3rd one as I moved. A fourth ended up being taken by a neighbor because they neglected it also. They finally moved but probably have some other poor dog tied up out back of their new place. I hope it gets away.

Wait. Conditions were serious enough that she was charged. And yet they let her keep the dog??? NOW the cruelty is as much YOUR fault, officers, as it is the sub-human who initiated it!

Don't like animals? Don't get any. Can't afford a pet? Don't get any. Too busy/too lazy/too selfish to take care of an animal? Don't get any. It's not rocket science, people! There's no shame in not having a pet for ANY reason. But this? Now, THIS is shameful!

So now she's probably so pis*ed off that she got a ticket because of the "stupid dog" she probably "lashed out" at. Speculation I'm sure, but to me it's the logical next step for someone with blatant disregard to their animal's well-being.
