Troopers caught up to Lowe’s Nissan Maxima in Vermilion Township at about 3 p.m., when it was allegedly speeding while heading east. The car was making a nonstop, overnight round trip from West Virginia to Detroit and back to West Virginia, troopers said.
Troopers said they noticed a lethargic Akers in the backseat with fresh track marks on her arms, and they believed she was trying to conceal something in her pants. When they searched her, a 36-gram bag of heroin fell from her pant leg, along with a bag of 18 generic Xanax pills, troopers said.
Butler had a 4-gram bag of heroin in his pocket, troopers said. Also found in the vehicle were three used syringes.
All three were arrested and taken to the Erie County jail. None of them took responsibility for the drugs, and they all offered conflicting accounts of the trip, troopers said.
Akers and Lowe remain in jail on $50,000 bond, while Butler’s bond is $75,000.
