Suspect still at large.

A Sandusky man was shot in the head Monday morning at his Eddy Henry Way home, according to Sandusky police.

Despite the odds, Lee Donald, 34, is alive and talking at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

He was inside his home in the 1900 block of Eddy Henry Way when at about 4 a.m. he suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, police said. Detectives are scrambling to whittle down the list of possible suspects, but as of Monday evening they had yet to make an arrest.

Emergency dispatchers received an exceptionally calm 911 call from a woman at about 4:10 a.m.

“I’m right here ... what’s the address?” the woman is heard saying to someone with her during the recorded 911 call. When the dispatcher asks her to explain the emergency, the woman replies, “Um, someone got shot.”

The call was then disconnected. The county’s dispatching system, which pinpoints the location of calls made to 911, traced the call to the home where Donald was shot.    At about the same time, officers received a call from Firelands Regional Medical Center, alerting them to a shooting victim in the emergency room, Sandusky police Detective Gary Wichman said.

Hospital surveillance footage showed a dark SUV drop off Donald. Officers held a woman in custody Monday afternoon and searched her vehicle, as it matched the description of the SUV at the hospital, but she was released later in the day.

Her vehicle is not the one police are searching for, Wichman said. Detectives are still trying to find the person who dropped Donald off at the hospital.

Donald later told detectives he has no idea who shot him, Wichman said. He told police he was sitting in his living room watching television when he heard someone pounding on his door. He said he opened the door, but he remembers nothing beyond that.

Monday morning, detectives placed police tape around the home and processed the scene for several hours.

The main door had an apparent bullet hole in it, and officers found a handgun shell casing inside the house.

Officers also seized trace amounts of marijuana from the home, Wichman said.

Donald is a registered sex offender who has been charged with numerous crimes over the past 15 years, including rape, assault, trespassing, theft, menacing, disorderly conduct and various drug and traffic offenses, according to court documents. In September 2010, he was the victim of an apparent knife fight outside a Perkins Avenue bar.

At the time, he told police he had no idea who assaulted him, according to a past Register article.

At about 11 a.m. Monday, meanwhile, a group of Donald’s friends and relatives showed up at the hospital with plans to visit him, police said. Officers asked the group to leave, and they arrested Rayshawn Grant, 35, of the 1000 block of W. Washington St., charging him with disorderly conduct and obstruction.

Police have not speculated on a motive for the shooting, although Donald’s friends said they suspect it was related to an argument involving a woman.

PREVIOUS STORY
A Sandusky man was shot once in the head at about 4 a.m. Monday inside his home on Eddy Henry Way, police said.

Lee Donald, 34, of the 1900 block of Eddy Henry Way, remains in the intensive care unit at Firelands Regional Medical Center. He was conscious and answering detectives' questions when they spoke to him at the hospital shortly after the incident, Sandusky police Detective Gary Wichman said.

Police are still gathering details and tracking down possible leads on suspects.

Wichman said a handgun was likely used in the assault, given the nature of Donald's wound.

Police were also called to the hospital later Monday morning when up to 15 people showed up, intending to visit Donald in the intensive care unit. One person was arrested at the hospital: Rayshaun Grant, 35, of Sandusky, was charged with disorderly conduct, police said.

Everyone is fam...

Actually, his record could have a lot to do with this story and why he was shot in the head. For one, he raped someone. Maybe a family member decided our crappy justice system didn't serve them well? Or maybe since he's been busted for drugs, it was a drug deal gone bad? His record may be his past, but it could be a glimpse of what is coming back to haunt his future. As the saying goes...it comes back two fold.

starryeyes83

You all DID notice the second comment was the "race card" the FIRST was his extensive CRIMINAL record!!

LMAO!

Maybe a botched suicide...... Shoot!

All I have to say is that whom ever pulled that trigger was a terrible shot and hopefully it was the idiot that did it to himself for being such a thorn to society.Second time is the deal sealer ...for future reference.

just plain disgusted

While it is true most people do not deserve to be shot if you are going to live a criminal life style no matter what your race is then it's safe to say you are opening yourself as well as your family and friends up to the dangers of that criminal life style.

Rape, drugs and assualt he is a real stand up guy according to his record not someone I would be so quick to defend.

This just in....Sandumpy Police are looking for 2 BPOS in connection with the shooting of this pillar of society and for having bad aim.

The Sandusky Police Department is currently looking for Stanley Frankart (Sandusky) and Ja'Ron Ashburn (Perkins Township) for their involvement in the shooting of Lee Donald (age 34) of Sandusky. The two subjects are considered armed and dangerous. Please contact police with any information on their whereabouts.

Ok, so this is what "black on black" crime means?

The New World Czar

Instead of copy and pasting the records of the two fugitives, let it also be known that the two have over 50 combined incidents on record with the Sandusky Municipal Courts website.

Let's hope these two "acquanitances" of the shooting victim are off the streets quick.

Any objectors to this post???

Statealltheway

What's lost in this mess of a story is that some people, including the "victim" himself, are withholding information from law enforcement. Some woman at his home calls 911, but then suddenly loses her connection?? Makes no attempt to call back?? Mr. Upstanding Citizen is brought to the ED in a black SUV, so somebody wants to help him/save his life, but those same people don't want to give any and all information to law enforcement?? Seems legit to me....

Surprise surprise that half of Sandusky would show up to visit his sorry a$$ in the hospital -- they probably just wanted to come in and enjoy cable television and hot food. Why else would you want to visit someone in the hospital with a criminal record longer than a Lord Of The Rings Movie...

I agree with you concerning people withholding information from law enforcement. But how is this case different from the Jacob Limberios case if the victim had died and why is the reaction so visceral?

In the Limberios case unlawful activity was on going and the victim engaged in dangerous behavior that contributed to his death. Like this case, the witnesses aren't talking.

In the present case, people are assuming some illegal activity occurred and again the witnesses weren't talking at the time of the incident. Perhaps they are now.

What did Mr. Donald's record look like at the same age of Mr. Limberios? Is the different reaction due to race, age, or the fact that one man died and the other did not?

I don't have the answers but life sure appears cheap to many of the posters here.

Jacob has no record for same court. How dare you compare the two.

2Timothy1-7

The record reveals a lot of traffic citations and underage consumption issues, plus some drug crimes. Wasn't there underage consumption involved in the shooting of Mr. Limberios, and why did he have need of a hand gun.
Mr. Limberios or his associates never engaged in any illegal behavior including drug use? The witnesses present at his fatal shooting(and their relatives) would have no reason to lie, obstruct the investigation or mislead the police right? (There's no record in Sandusky Municipal Court, because he lived in the Castalia area).

What's sad is the radically different reaction by law enforcement in the two cases and some community members' elastic values on the sanctity of human life.

Everyone is fam...

The difference isn't race. There was no description or picture in the original article. The difference is Jake wasn't a thorn in society's hiney with a mile long rap sheet. Sometimes people screw up, but most good members of society do not screw up over and over and over and over...Why is it so hard for people to comprehend whether this guy was black or white, the reaction is the same? Equal rights. Everyone wants them, but until it's ok for whites to have organizations like NAACP , and various funds ect without being illegal or protested, there is no equality. Or instead of meeting quota, employers feeling free to hire the QUALIFIED person. Racism is still alive, and now it's geared towards the whites. As for me, if someone is a piece of crap, I will call them a piece of crap, based solely on what is within their heart.

deertracker

I think we ALL should let Jake rest in peace!

This guy got shot in the head? I don't think so, How could the bullet get past those huge lips?

TuffNutts2011

Due to his record he will never be able to testify against anyone in court. He cant be used as a credible witness.

Centauri

"He cant be used as a credible witness."

Define credible witness in your own words.

I feel that a lot of politicians should be convicted and thrown into prison. They lie, cheat and break the laws yet they have no conviction.

The Riems case about a credible witness still bothers me. No conviction but the witness lied about stolen guns and was fired. I have a problem with people who lie.

"Will Riems case stand after detective's firing?"

Dr. Information

Amazing how people will defend such trash. America is in a sad state when people like this are defended by others. He's had 50 chances to get his act together and has failed to.

Call it whatever you want but he was a drag on society and his record shows just that. Some are meant for a life of crime.

The bullet of choice for many mob executions was the 22 long rifle. It leaves a small hole when it enters, ricochets in the skull causing massive brain damage, don't exit, and very little blood.

What I would like to know about the article and pictures is why did the cop feel he could park on the sidewalk? Really couldn't he park that cruiser along the street like they normally do? How awful our community has become when even the cops can't even follow local ordinances...

Dr. Information

Captain obvious. If you know anything about shooting handguns, then you would know that after about 25 yards, your handgun becomes less accurate. Considering they had no clue what was going on is why they pulled their cruiser up so close. 1. For protection in case of a shootout 2. If someone came out shooting, they were close enough to take them down while behind cover.

The photo was taken what time of the moring Dr. I.? when the initial call was 4Am and they were also notified the guy was at the ER. Oh and if you didn't get it, my post was called sarcasm................
