Huron man asks Perkins police to ignore drugs

He pleaded for mercy Tuesday after cops found two syringes filled with suspected heroin during a traffic stop at Ohio 4 and Fox Road.

The plea fell on deaf ears, as Michael Geringer, 32, of Huron, was charged with possession of heroin, drug paraphernalia and possession of drug abuse instrument.

When officers stopped Geringer’s noisy Ford Taurus at about 5 p.m., they immediately recognized him from past drug incidents, according to a Perkins police report.

A brief search turned up the two loaded needles.

“Joe, can’t you just get rid of them for me?” Geringer allegedly asked one of the officers, who declined the offer.

Geringer then told police he’s been using heroin for about a month. He told them he’d been addicted to Percocet, but when that habit got too expensive he found heroin a cheap alternative, the report said.

“Geringer asked several times for me not to arrest him and just dispose of the needle as he is in the process of going through rehab but he has not been able to get into a rehab facility yet due to a waiting list,” the report said.

Geringer remains in the Erie County jail on $10,240 bond.

Drugs are 'cunning and baffling'

So if someone commits a crime in the past, they are assumed guilty and the police have probable cause to conduct a search based on past convictions. I am not saying he is innocent, just commenting regarding his constitutional right regarding search and seizure.

Majority of these criminals wouldnt know what rights they have if it was on paper in front of them

we have no rights if you really think about it-not at work, not in life and not even at home in some cases. cops do watch previous offenders and check their driving status all day long. if you don't want to be hounded, you have to move away.

Or.....don't commit illegal acts in the first place then you won't be "hounded" ! Life is perty simple if ya ask me !

Just Sayin IMHO

Jail is a good rehab. Leave him there for the withdrawal period, then put him on a program. If he is willing, he can succeed.

Noisy car!

Perhaps had he given the car a share of the "drugs" it wouldn't have been complaining so loudly.....just saying.

Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over our addiction and that our lives had become unmanageable.

Huron cops may ignore your drugs but Perkins' cops.......not so much!

why cant the cops ignore it? the judges do.
