Perkins police had a strange encounter with a gloved Cleveland woman Wednesday morning in a Walmart parking lot.

Officers spotted a blue Chrysler van parked near a group of semis. The engine was running and bed sheets covered the windows so it was enough to pique their interest.

“As I approached, I observed a female sleeping across the back seat,” a Perkins police report said.

They knocked on the window, and the 55-year-old woman awoke. Officers asked for an ID.

“While she was getting her ID I noticed (the woman) was wearing a white plastic glove on her left hand,” a report said. “She was asked about the glove with her stating her hands are sensitive and she wears the glove so she does not scratch them.”

The woman told police she was from Cleveland but also has a house in Port Clinton. She couldn’t remember an address for her Port Clinton home.

Police asked her why she was sleeping in a parking lot. “She stated she didn’t like to sleep alone at her residence,” the report said.

The woman agreed to leave and charges were not filed.

SOUNDS MORE LIKE SOMETHING THAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED in Portage Township during the sting.

Actually Wal Mart has a long standing policy allowing for camping in their parking lots. You don't see it much up north but it is prevalent down south, I'm surprised that more of their employees don't take advantage of the rent free accommodations.

Why did she have to leave? If she felt comfortable there, and Wal-Mart allows camping in their parking lots, she shouldn't have been made to move on. I can understand the police telling her she wasn't safe and she SHOULD move on, but legally, she shouldn't HAVE to leave.

I don't know how much more alone you can get than sleeping in a van in a Walmart parking lot, but to each his own. This reminds me of that show,My Strange Addiction ? (not sure of title). Anyway, many Walmarts are disallowing the practice, for instance in St. Augustine, FL.

Yes, I can see there could be abuse with the practice. It is human nature to take a nice jesure and abuse it until it ends then get mad.

Of course Walmart probably figured people would buy their supplies there so the unused space was actualy a big shopping cart!
