Police arrested one man, Takhai Brown, 19, of Sandusky, on charges of disorderly conduct while intoxicated, obstructing official business, resisting arrest, and having a weapon while intoxicated.
He's also the suspected shooter, though charges related to the shooting have not yet been filed.
Residents in the neighborhood heard the shots at about 12:30 a.m. Police found possible bullet holes at two buildings in the 800 block of Hancock Street. They also recovered two shell casings and one bullet.
Early information incidated one man was injured in the incident, but police have confirmed no one was shot.

What's the worst thing about a shooting in Sandusky? There was only one punk shot. I see SPD is doing what they do best, standing around after the shooting. Maybe the new Chief will bring in real cops, unless it's Orzech.

With so many unemployed and on some type of drugs, it's no wonder it isn't worse. There are people going around stealing for a living and while some get caught, many don't. There are not enough police to do that job. Presciption pills, which are legal, are many people's drug of choice. They don't work or can't work and are also a part of the problem but the guys with guns are most likely gang members and maybe not even from the area but could be trying to take it over. Couz' from Cleveland or Deetroit in the hood. Makes even the cops nervous.
It would be nice to send him to prison if he has any felony charges pending. lets face it, he is 19 and has a gun while drunk and starts shooting, I doubt he is going to turn into a productive member of society. Just ship him away now before he gets better aim and actually kills someone.
Maybe if all of the criminals/felons didn't just get a slap on the wrist from the judge, there would be more of a deterrent.

I was looking in the paper for a house to buy, one seller said "3 bdroom in a nice neghborhood." I pulled it up onine and it was on the corner of Hancock and Jefferson... maybe I define nice neighborhood better. The problem with low lever criminals is that the jail is to small and most of the time people that are given 7-10 days are kicked out for over crowding. It would be nice to build a bigger jail so that full jail sentences can be imposed and served.
No offense to your post, but I grew up in that neighborhood. We walked to and from Monroe School as kids. Stopped at Fisher Drugs for candy on a daily basis. Then the neighborhood deteriorated. They put the COP station in and Chico cleaned up the neighborhood. Made those people care about their property and their safety. Closed up the COP station, and it has turned back into a crime-ridden area.SPD is running bare bones. They are overwhelmed with crime due to many social circumstances. And no one wants to talk because of the consequences. I don't care who makes Chief, but it better be someone who is proactive instead of reactive. Crime is on the uprise drastically, and EVERYONE needs to nip it in the bud. I'm disgusted to hear about all these crimes taking place day after day. Wish I had the answer before many more lives are snuffed. What's the solution?
With all due respect, safecracker, the answer is simple. The committee and city council have wasted far too much time on this "chief" selection now. The problem is getting too 'weighty' and unrealistic to go another round of candidates and selections. This is part of the problem, I think, with the crime being on the uprise. No leadership at the top of the SPD.
Just make the big "O" the chief and be done with it so they can organize down there at the SPD and hire what they need to move forward. Make the changes they need and get moving on this crime spree they have going on.
People are tired of it. The City Commissioners are not doing their jobs, just being knuckleheads and sparring with each other, so perhaps it is time for Ms Ard to take over and do HER job by appointing the chief NOW.
That seems fitting considering the mess the commissioners have made. People are becoming more and more afraid while the commissioners and City hall drag their feet.
The only solution is for Ms Ard to take the bull by the horns and APPOINT the new chief now by appointing the big O who is on the final list anyway.
If, after a year or two, it is found he cannot do the job....then go fishing for someone new.

@sickofsandtown: When the police "stand around" they are normally comparing NOTES they have taken while talking to people at the scene so they can find out first hand what they saw.

I have lived in Sandusky all of my life , and I can not believe how crime ridden it has become. Not all but a good portion of the younger generation today think that every one owes them something. I think that they get some of there ideas from these gangster movies , MONKEY SEE MONKEY DO !
