Children visiting Lions Park can get wet, shoot hoops and pretty much play all day. And soon, even more fun features will come crashing ashore at the waterfront park.

Sandusky city commissioners recently voted 7-0 to spend about $40,000 in grant funds for additional playground equipment at the Lasalle Street facility.

The playground, expected to arrive around summertime, complements existing equipment resembling rocks. Among the new features: logs shaped and spaced out like stairs, a tunnel kids can crawl in and a climbing course.

“The additional play equipment will allow children from ages 3 to 12 to actively play on these items” Sandusky chief planner Rebecca Corrigan said.

Meanwhile, Mills Street resident Dan Leavell recently asked commissioners if they could possibly install some benches around the new bike path.

Commissioners seemed receptive to the idea. Corrigan said there’s about $3,000 in leftover grant money to possibly spend on benches.

I think the idea of installing benches around the walkway is an excellent idea and hope the city will follow through with the suggestion.

Defiantly need benches by the waterfront! I walk around there everyday and wished I could sit and enjoy the view!

All good!! Just curious as to how much the splash pads cost tax payers to run all day.

Great idea but can you get the parking lot fixed first

The plans are coming together nicely. The place is a gem - so know when to stop cutting and start polishing.
