The Star Spangled Squirt Gun 5K is back again.

The race, in its second year, will feature squirt gun-wielding volunteers along the route on the Fourth of July.

“The squirt guns are a fun twist on the standard 5K and provide a way for participants to beat the heat while we celebrate our nation's birth,” said Gabe DeFreitas, race director.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the newly-created Kenneth Jensen Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of Port Clinton High School who is pursuing vocational education.

The course will take participants along Lake Erie and through historic downtown Port Clinton before ending at Adams Street Park.

Those who are not racing are invited to join the volunteers in squirting the participants along the route.

“Just be sure to aim below the face,” DeFreitas said.

Racers can sign up online at Entry fees are $20 per racer for those who pre-register by June 27th and $25 thereafter or on race day. All participants registered by June 27th will also receive a T-shirt.
