The company whose parks include Cedar Point and Kings Island in Ohio said Tuesday that it sold a record number of season passes last year.
It says season pass visitors made up about 40 percent of its total attendance in 2012.
The company with headquarters in Sandusky says overall attendance nationwide fell just short of its record 23 million visitors set last year.
It also says guests spent more money on food, games and souvenirs in the parks — but spending was down at its hotels.
Cedar Fair owns more than a dozen amusement parks and water parks around the country, along with a handful of hotels.

More than likely its due to the payment plan option they had online when purchasing your pass. It was smart thinking for a down economy. I hope its back this year!
We just purchased the passes on the payment plans so yes, they are offering it. I am glad they offer it because many families can't afford to pay for all the passes at one time. It is the first time we have ever had passes and we are looking forward to the the fun. We bought the Platinum passes because that option includes all the parks including Soak City and parking which is a big plus! We may even go to Kings Island this year for something new since we have never been there!
I agree Informer. We bought passes because of that and we haven't been to cedar point in over 15 years!
How can the attendance be shy of the record this year when the season hasn't even begun yet?
where is that? I don't see it?

It's grammatically incorrect.
@ Happy Camper....King's Island is really nice. I would highly recommend it. What I found interesting was the fact that they have a rewards program for season pass holders. I don't understand why Cedar Point can't offer that. It allows you to accumulate points to earn rewards such as fast passes.
