Having already earned his spot in the Division II state tennis championships prior to Saturday’s district semifinals at Bowling Green State University’s Keefe Courts, Perkins senior Manickam Manickam finished third at the event.

Manickam lost a close match to Lima Central Catholic’s Pierre Desprat by scores of 6-3, 6-4. But the three-time state qualifier bounced back in the third place match, beating Celina’s Alex Seible, 6-1, 7-5.

“Manickam played some great tennis today despite losing to Desprat,” Perkins coach Joe Taylor said. “He was up a break in the second set at one point, however, Pierre was just too strong down the stretch”

Desprat fell to Mason Dragos of Lexington in Saturday’s championship match.

The 16-player state field begins at 9 a.m. Friday morning on the outdoor courts at Ohio State University in Columbus.
