Harlequins Community Theatre is a non-profit organization associated with the Ohio Community Theatre Association and the American Association of Community Theatres.
Harlequins produces three to four shows each season, November through May.
The "Kid Kompany," Harlequins children's theater, also puts on a performance in late June. Having only 97 seats, Harlequins boasts "an intimacy most theaters can't provide ... because there's nothing quite like intimate live theater."
Harlequins is the oldest continuously operating community theater in Ohio and has garnered multiple awards at regional and state competitions during the past several years, including three awards Sept. 4-7 at the Ohio Community Theatre Association. The theater competition included 40-minute excerpts of plays produced by community theaters during their past season.
Harlequins chose to present excerpts from "Ravenscroft" by Don Nigro, a murder/mystery/comedy set in the Victorian era.
In light of the recent difficult economic times, Harlequins' 2009-10 season offers a line up of laughter. All three upcoming plays -- "Lying in State," "Boston Marriage" and "The Iliad, the Odyssey, and all of Greek Mythology in 99 Minutes or Less" -- are comedies.
