Ohio corrections officials say Ariel Castro, the Cleveland man who held three women captive in his home for nearly a decade, has committed suicide at a state prison facility.

Spokeswoman JoEllen Smith said Castro, 53, was found hanging in his cell around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient. Prison medical staff performed CPR before Castro was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The three women disappeared separately between 2002 and 2004, when they were 14, 16 and 20 years old. They escaped May 6, when one of the women broke part of a door and yelled to neighbors for help. Castro was arrested that evening.

Castro was sentenced Aug. 1 to life in prison plus 1,000 years on his guilty plea to 937 counts including kidnapping and rape.

God's good call. He is now where he belongs.

Now if we could only encourge clinton to do the same

gramafun

saved the taxpayers tons of cash. Sounds like he couldn't stand the same confinement he made the girls take all those years.

Good!

Coward! He could dish out imprisonment to those brave young ladies but he could not take it when he was imprisoned. Yes, saves tax money but I wanted him to suffer what he dished out but sadly putting him in protective custody would not have allowed that anyway. Yes, he is where God wants him and I am sure it is pretty warm where he is! He thought spent living his life in prison would be hard? Well, eternity in Hell (if you believe in Hell, I think he did) is not going to be a picnic.

starryeyes83

Too bad, he didn't do that years, before he ever nabbed those girls. OH well. at least he saved us some money. Too bad the other criminal ones in the area don't follow suit.

dorothy gale

He managed to escape the punishment he deserved and that makes me very angry.

donutshopguy

Dorothy,

He escaped our worldly punishment. Now he spends eternity in he11.

Bherrle

Exactly DSG. His fate in eternity is far worse.

"Escape From New York":

"The next scheduled departure to the prison is in two hours. You now have the option to terminate and be cremated on the premises. If you elect this option, notify the Duty Sergeant in your Processing Area."

IMO, should be SOP.

The New World Czar

After this week is over, I hope never to again hear his name mentioned on TV.

JudgeMeNot

There's a movie in the works.

Thank you for saving much pain for the survivors of this MONSTER, We shouldn't have to pay for these pieces of crap living for another 40 years and getting all medical, food and housing for free. Reap your reward Ariel!!

Now if Manson, Chapman, sirhan, and other high profile ones and all the local, rapists, child molesters, murderers , kidnappers and child beaters/ killers etc. would just follow his lead.

It would take care of some over crowding and save us some tax dollars.

bigbirdblue

well hopefully he is getting comfortable in hell. now only if some other people would do the same thing.

All lifers should be issued a set of jail duds and a rope. Would save millions of taxpayer dollars.
