On Feb. 9, my mom lost her 11/2 year battle with colon cancer -- she was just 63 years old. It had metastasized to her lung, brain and then her chest. After being diagnosed, she became a strong advocate of colon cancer awareness. She spread the word to everyone that it is preventable, treatable and beatable when detected early.
I encourage all physicians, no matter what field you practice in, to insist on screenings at age 50. They are not just for people with symptoms -- the most common symptom is no symptom at all. If you are age 50 or older or have a family history of colon cancer, call today for your screening. It may save you life.
Miss you, Mom.
