A concerned resident in Oak Harbor called police Thursday morning to report a large wild animal -- possibly a bobcat or mountain lion -- in a wooded area on the east side of the village near Finke Road.

According to a dispatcher at the Oak Harbor Police Department, the caller had spotted the beast several times in the past, but called Thursday after deciding the animal appeared to be larger than a dog.

Police advised Oak Harbor schools about the call, and staff at R.C. Waters Elementary, about a half mile from where the cat was reportedly sighted, decided to keep the children inside during recess.

The dispatcher said officers looking for the animal hadn't located any sign of a large cat by about 7 p.m.
