The Register has made public plans to combine the locations of Perkins and Sandusky police departments.
I know it's the Register's right to scrap anything that they don't find palatable, but in my original I gave two reasons for the failure of the merger effort years ago was money AND RACE. We aren't supposed to cringe over the money issue; everyone knows Sandusky's poor. It's the racial/socioeconomic issue that is sad but present.
Mr. Noon, in the copy of your letter forwarded by your mother and received by me, race was not mentioned. Although letters to the Reader's Forum are subject to editing, no mention of race in your letter was deleted during the Register's editing process.
I'm sorry. I jumped to conclusions; I later phoned my parents, who edited the piece for me, and later told me of their edits. That particular one they didn't mention until earlier today. It was my mistake, and I truly am embarassed and apologize to the Register.
Also, reading my own words, I feel I have been too harsh with the community. Although the issue was quietly talked about in some spots, the real issue behind the merger repulsion WAS in fact money, and in a silly, self-righteous furor, I forgot we're not living in the South in the 1960s. To Sandusky and her newspaper, I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions, and not presenting my beliefs in a way representative of my upbringg.
