Sandusky assault victim wants life back

A group of men savagely beat a Sandusky man outside Daly's bar on May 29, leaving his limp body in the rain and a pool of blood.

A group of men savagely beat a Sandusky man outside Daly's bar on May 29, leaving his limp body in the rain and a pool of blood.

Mike Ackerman, 46, survived, but barely -- he now faces a life of limitations. Unable to work or sleep, Ackerman lives with his parents, Shirley and Eddie Ackerman, on the west edge of town.

"I'm just not me anymore," he said. "I'm trying to get used to it, but I can't."

If you ask his parents, Ackerman was an industrious man just three months ago.

What were the circumstances of this? What has happened to those who were involved?

Mike's mom looks like Howard Sprague's mom. (Mayberry)            Did Mike ever live on his own?

YAWWNN

I'm not trying to downplay what happened to Mike, but my God man, get on your own two feet and quit having your elderly mom take care of you.  I've seen you around town and you seem to get around just fine, at least enough for you to obtain meaningful employment and stop using your mom.

Taxpayer

I agree with moving on with your ADULT life and contributing to the lives of your parents instead of being a drain on them.  46-years-of-age is too old to be living at home with Mom and Dad.  But, that is just me.  He might be on the outs of a relationship, in financial perilousness, needs extra attention or requires assisted care.  If he can hit the watering hole to get all soaked up, then I truly believe he is NOT in financial hazard or requires "special care" unless it is on the dime (entitlements) of the people.  The "circumstances" to this story were presented by the Register in print and the blogs.  This is a prime example of how everyone FORGETS about something as life moves on.  That is the strategy of attorneys and public defenders.  They want YEARS to pass by so everyone will forget and have liberal, "FEEL GOOD" compassion on the SUSPECT and the usual "who cares about the victim" mentality.  I thought it was inherent to leave home and go out on your OWN after 18.  My kids will do the same unless they continue on to graduate school.  They will all leave, one at a time for college or join the military and pray they stay on the right path.  I will expect them to come home to visit as they perpetuate the family and have their own children.  This is supposed to be the cycle of life.  I love that quote by Thomas Sowell!

Return of Dragon II

This dude's problems appear to be more than from the beatdown.  I feel sorry for the parents of this dirtbag that have to support him.  Look at his record...... this dude has a serious drug and alcohol problem.

There are some COLD BLOODED people on these blogs!   None of you have any idea what all his condition consists of.   You have no idea the full extent of his injuries.   Why do people list the records of the VICTIMS?   Why do you feel the need to do that?   His record has nothing to do with being beaten half to death by a GROUP of people and left for dead.   I do not know this man but~geeeez give him and his family a break!     Unreal.   This world is way too full of hatred and we wonder what is wrong with the world?

jujupoodlemom

Well the article says "He hit a woman in the face" well there you have it . He has always had a drinking problem and Domestic Violence. He will never change, once a DRUNK always A Drunk.

retired08

Nothing serious will happen to this guy. It appears he singlehandedly has supported the criminal justice system in Erie County. If you lock him up you would have to lay off staff to make up for the income he has generated for the system.

PUNKYDUDE

Nothing but a drunk and criminal.

Sue Meredith

Itisntallaboutu I agree with you 100%. Maybe some of these bloggers should  spend 75 cents on a paper or subscribe to the e-paper to get the whole story. Why is he living with his parents,  because he has to. Why isn't he working, because he can't.  And what does posting his record have to do with being beaten and left for dead. Ok maybe he slapped a girl in the bar, does that justify being beaten sensless? If there was a problem, why didn't the girl report it to the bouncers? Or better yet, why hasn't this "mystery"  girl come forward to help with the investigation?

beepx22

dalys doesnt have bouncers does it

Return of Dragon II

Daly's has bouncers  some times they are hard to tell from the other thugs.  They had a celebrity bouncer down there last weekend.  Remember Phil Howell the guy who gave the underage girl beer and tried to molest her?  His court date has been postponed 3 times and he isn't due in court until November.  Well he was one of the bouncers this weekend.  Hard to tell who the bad guys are when the bouncers are even facing felony charges.  Keep it classy Daly's!!!!!

Return of Dragon II

From what I heard from somebody that was there..... he had it coming.  Because this happened in May of this year..... he has lived with his parents for at least the last 15 years?  Look at his record!  This guy is a drunk.  Good things happen to good people and bad things happen to ..... well we know how that ends!  Sorry I don't have sympathy for a guy who has an alcohol problem and chooses to spend his time in the bar.  I do feel sorry for his parents for raising such a dirtbag.

kURTje

Dig deeper here.......think it was Will Rodgers who said, "Don't believe everything you read."    Right ?

Joker

Hmm, you want the police to catch this guy then you say you feel witnesses won't step up because we have a mediocre police department.  Did you happen to tell that to the faces of the detectives investigating your case?  A statement like that makes them REALLY want to catch these guys.  Luckily most SPD are too professional to be affected by such an idiotic comment.  Mr. Ackerman please direct your anger and rage at the people who deserve it: the thugs who beat you up, not at women and the SPD.

Julie R.

How many times do I have to tell you people that are always posting records ---- the biggest dirt bags around don't have any records at all! ( and a good majority of the d-bags can be found at your corrupt Erie County courthouse)

Also, what business is it of anybody's if this guy still lives with his mother? And then picking on his mother's concern for her son yet ~ how ridiculous.  I don't know of any normal mother around that does not spend their entire lives worrying about their kids --- doesn't make any difference if their kids are 6 or 60.

God Bless, Mr. Ackerman.

myname

LOL!  Big and bad Phil Howell is back to being a bouncer once again at Daly's!  LOL!!!  I knew it was only a matter of time!

You can't make this stuff up!

"And what does posting his record have to do with being beaten and left for dead. Ok maybe he slapped a girl in the bar, does that justify being beaten sensless?"

His record is valuable for determining if he provoked the beating, or if it was a natural result of the circles in which he traveled.

Years ago, columnist Mike Royko got a lot of flak for interviewing homeless people, beating victims like this one, and the like, and, after they told a story in which everyone but them could see the cause and effect relationship between their choices and their circumstances, asking them if there was any decision they could have made differently that might have allowed them to avoid their current plight.  That's the point.

lilbit05

okay so i have read every single one of everyones comments and some of you i can tell have a heart but the rest of you are cold hearted people. you have no idea what this has put the ackerman family thru. and that thinking of hes a town drunk and an achoholic is the reason why he almost lost his life laying in a pool of blood outside a bar. yeah maybe he was in a bad place and yeah maybe he was drunk but guess what who cares it does not give anyone a right to beat him that bad..... and for the girl he slapped well guess what she cant be found that should tell you something right..... i know mike on a personal level he might drink but after 21 years of knowing him he has never done anything in his life to deserve this never. i dont care what anyone says..... and for the d bag who posted his arrest record on here, how does that help not at all. it doesnt matter what he has done in his past. no ones past should effect a present problem. so now he has to live the rest of his life not being able to do normal activities. like play basketball with his son. or help his daughter move. and for people to call him a dirtbag what has he ever done to you..... probably nothing cause you dont know him.... i can keep going on and on about this but it wont help..... all i can say is people in this society are rude and cruel.... put yourself in his daughter or sons shoes for once knowing that the people who did this are going to get away with it more then likely and they loose the father that they have known there whole lives.... and also he wasnt living with his parents for the past 15 years you idiots
