The Ohio Library Council has given its Diana Vescelius Memorial Award to Shayna Muckerheide, technical services and special projects manager at Bellevue Public Library.

The award was one of a series of awards the council gave to libraries across Ohio. The Vescelius Award recognizes "Ohio's library leaders of tomorrow."

"She regularly assists with working the public desk, programming and outreach visits, in addition to behind-the-scenes technical services responsibilities. Muckerheide has collaborated on preparing news releases and facilitated the creation of in-house calendars and newsletters. She serves as the library’s liaison to CLEVNET IT and has demonstrated an active concern for protecting patron privacy and promoting intellectual freedom in this role," the library council said.

"Muckerheide was instrumental in making certain that documents which patrons had inadvertently saved to public computers would be deleted as part of daily, routine maintenance. She has used technology to improve existing services and expand library services to new audiences including becoming a trainer for the ConnectOhio program, and developing a technology open house for library staff and patrons to explore tablets and e-readers," the council said.
