A Sandusky man was indicted on numerous weapons charges this week for allegedly firing off five rounds on Forest Drive last month, one of which penetrated a home.

Jeremy Prophet, 39, of the 2000 block of W. Forest Drive, was indicted on charges of weapons under disability, tampering with evidence, discharging a firearm at or into a school safety zone, felonious assault and two counts of discharging a firearm at or into a habitation.

A frantic resident alerted Perkins police Officer Martin Curran to a man walking down West Forest Drive, toting a handgun, around 6:30 p.m. on July 11.

Curran heard rushed to the area, heard gunfire, took cover behind a vehicle and ordered Prophet to show his hands, according to a police report.

Prophet allegedly began to run away, but Curran closed in and was able to zap him with a Taser as Sandusky police arrived at the scene.

Investigators later learned Prophet had ditched his gun behind a nearby home, the report said.

As some officers took Prophet into custody, other investigators learned he'd allegedly fired shots at a home in the 2100 block.

One bullet had actually entered the residence, and three other bullets holes were found in its siding, with three corresponding shells found on the ground nearby. Two additional shells were located a little closer to the roadway, the report said.

Prophet received two additional weapons charges because the incident occurred within 1000 feet of Mills School and he is not allowed to have a gun because of a previous felony conviction.

Prophet was arrested and held at the Erie County jail until July 31, when he was released on a $61,0000 recognizance bond, and is currently required to wear an ankle monitor, according to jail records.
