50 years ago, 1964: Dr. Dean E. Sheldon, a recipient of a Sandusky Community Service Award, was honored at a surprise presentation of the first annual Wildlife Conservation Award at the Erie County Fair. Sheldon was one of three Ohioans to receive the award.

25 years ago, 1989: Chrysler Corp.'s plan to reduce its costs by $1 billion by the end of 1990 may be nearly impossible to achieve, company Chairman Lee Iacocca said in a pessimistic view of the U.S. auto industry. Iacocca also warned that more auto plants, including some Japanese "transplants" could close.

10 years ago, 2004: More than 100 men were busted for gambling on cricket fights, the creepy crawly kind. Hong Kong police seized about 300 crickets and $1,025 in cash during the bust. The bust, which included 115 people, was held in the same building that housed a cricket lovers' association.
