A Sandusky man allegedly stole a woman's car and dog Wednesday, then led officers on a car chase Thursday afternoon before surrendering himself and the pooch.

Gregory Young, 51 of the 1100 block of W. Market St., was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, failure to comply with a police order, theft, operating a vehicle under the influence, resisting arrest, a protection order violation, marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia, open container, and driving under suspension.

Young had asked a Hancock Street woman if he could listen to music in her car Wednesday and she obliged. But soon, the woman noticed both he and her Yorkie, Prince, were gone.

Young assured the woman he'd be right back — but day faded into night, faded into morning, and still Young and Prince weren't back.

Worried, the woman filed a police report around 9 a.m., with Sandusky officers issuing a theft warrant for the dog, and an unauthorized use warrant for the vehicle.

A few hours later, Officer Sean Orman spotted Young —and the Yorkie— in the missing Pontiac Torrent at Washington and Perry streets, according to a Sandusky police report.

Orman flipped on his lights, but Young allegedly kept driving.

From Washington Street he turned onto Warren Street, then Madison, Elm, and Monroe streets, the report said.

Another officer tried stop Young at the intersection, but Young slid on by and continued on, traveling the speed limit and obeying all stop sign.

He drove down Wayne Street, then turned on Scott. Officer swarmed the Pontiac once it reached the Milan Road light, the report said.

Young allegedly refused to exit the car and resisted arrest.

A search of his pockets and the car later yielded three bags of marijuana, an open can of beer and bottle of liquor, and two bags of suspected crack.

Young was held at the Erie County jail on a $28,000 bond.

Prince was returned to his owner, safe and sound.

Poor prince, probably getting high, drunk, mama's little guy on the run with an old loser. I'm glad he's back home.
