I am writing about oil use in America, which has become dependant on the oil supply in the Middle East. America uses 20 million barrels of oil each day. Many people would like to drill in Alaska, but I disagree, due to the destruction of the beautiful Alaskan environment. If the Middle East were to stop selling us oil, we would have no solid backup for a fuel source. I believe the U.S. should use solar, nuclear or wind energy. Use of an alternative energy source could save America billions of dollars in the long run and we would no longer be dependant on another country.

Nuclear, solar and wind energy are much cheaper than oil. I have recently studies nuclear energy and found that it has saved America $44 billion in the last 30 years, which could otherwise be used for schools, roads and trade promotion. Oil pollutes our planet. Oil spills can cause death to millions of animals such as birds, fish and marine mammals. It also pollutes the air, causing smog and ozone depletion. Oil is also to be blamed for global warming. Even you at home could save money by switching to other energy sources. Imagine, ten years from now, pouring water into your vehicle and driving to Florida without having to stop and pay your hard-earned money on overpriced gas.

Oil is an energy source that cost billions, pollutes the environment, thins the ozone layer and causes global warming. Do you really want to use a substance that cost so much, and does such negative things to our planet? The simple solution is to use other energy sources. Oil has no positive side to it, so why are we using it at such a high degree when other options are available.

The $0.51 per gal. corporate welfare to the oil refiners for adding 5.6% ethanol to California gas is about $500,000,000.00 per year.

The ethanol may add over $1.00 per gal. to the gas profit in California.

That may be about $100 billion in oil profit from California motorists.

The science is interesting but so is the money.

A $4 billion Prop. 87 oil tax may add $40 billion in oil profit.
