Scientists speaking at Stone Laboratory today near Put in Bay said western Lake Erie will have a "significant" harmful algal bloom this year.

But while the toxic blue-green cyanobacteria algal bloom will return in the late summer, it will be smaller than the one in 2013 and much small than the 2011 bloom, which set a record for its size, the scientists said.
