A Sandusky man was arrested over the weekend for the March sexual assault of a teenage girl at Kalahari Resorts, where he worked as a lifeguard, deputies said.

Bryce Stokes, 19, of the 200 block of Taylor St., was indicted on one count each of rape and gross sexual imposition.

The charges stem from a March 10 incident, in which a 13-year-old Eastlake girl was visiting the resort with her 14-year-old friend, Erie County Chief Deputy Jared Oliver said.

The pair had met Stokes while he was on duty as a lifeguard in the resort's pool, then ran into him later in the day after he was done with his shift and the water park had closed.

Stokes allegedly led the girls to a vacant conference room. There, he took the 13-year-old into a closet and held the door shut so her friend couldn't get in. He then allegedly made the girl perform sex acts on him and then performed acts on her, Oliver said.

The group then separated, but law enforcement did not learn of the assault until a few weeks later.

The girl had told some friends at school she was assaulted, and the friends in turn alerted authorities.

On March 31, Eastlake police reached out to the Erie County Sheriff's Office and detectives interviewed—or tried to interview— both the girl and Stokes.

“She alleges it was unwanted sexual contact,” Oliver said of the girl.

As for Stokes, he declined to make a statement to deputies and instead asked for an attorney, Oliver said.

An Erie County grand jury later chose to indict Stokes on both charges.

Stokes was arrested July 5 and taken to the Erie County jail. He remains behind bars on a $50,000 bond.

Huh????????????

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It was reported weeks after the fact, so probably no DNA in private parts. And, if the closet door was closed, and the one girl could not see what was going on....I'm not sure what can actually be proved, beyond unlawful confinement and beyond a reasonable doubt. It will probably be a plea.

What about her age? DUH??????

He "made her" perform a sex act on him....I bet..."I'm a good girl Daddy, he made me do it". Not right of him, but rape....?

Informed

Yes, statutory rape. She is 13, barely a teenager, and he is an adult.

SpanishHarlem2011

In Ohio, Statutory rape (f1)is being with someone 12 and under. 13 to 15 is unlawful sex with a minor, which is a 3rd and 4th degree felony.

Kalahari seems to attract the criminal element. There is always something going on out there.

I had the same thought. Why hasnt the hotel commented on any of these incidents out there.

Hmmm, first of all why would parents leave a 13 and 14 year old girls at Kalahari by themselves. Girls probably flirted with him and I just bet met by accident later. They probably thought it was fun to have a older guy pay attention to them. Also, they did not have to go with him anywhere. Yes, if he did do the things they said then he needs to be punished for it, but I'm thinking these two ask for it. Not as innocent as they want to appear to be.

Of course they probably thought it was fun to have an older guy's attention. That is normal. That is also why it is ALWAYS the adult's responsibility to maintain appropriate boundaries, and not the kid's!

If you see a woman walking down the street in skimpy clothing, is she asking to be raped? If you see a man walking down the street wearing a football jersey, is he asking to be tackled? Consent is verbal, sober, non-coerced, enthusiastic, continual, active and honest. The culture of "rape-splaining" (attempting to explain away cases of rape and assault). Rape-splaining is an all-too-common phenomenon that perpetuates a rape culture that excuses sexual misconduct.
