Obama vows to act alone, taunts Republicans

"So sue me. I'm not going to apologize for trying to do something."
Associated Press
Jul 1, 2014

President Barack Obama defiantly dared congressional Republicans on Tuesday to try to block his efforts to act on his own and bypass a divided Congress that has thwarted his policy initiatives.

"So sue me," he taunted on a sweltering day, as he pushed lawmakers to pay for road and bridge repairs. "I'm not going to apologize for trying to do something."

Obama struck an aggressive tone in the face of a lawsuit threat from House Speaker John Boehner and in the wake of two defeats before the Supreme Court, including a unanimous decision from the court that he overreached when he appointed members of the National Labor Relations Board while the Senate was in recess.

His remarks came a day after Obama declared that he would act on his own to address weaknesses in the nation's immigration system after Boehner informed him that the House would not take up an immigration overhaul this year.

He has already taken a series of executive actions, including an order requiring federal contractors to pay a higher minimum wage and initiating steps to to lower carbon emissions in coal-fired power plants.

"So far this year, Republicans in Congress have blocked or voted down every serious idea to strengthen the middle class — not ideas that are unique to me," he said. "But the Republicans have said no to raising the minimum wage, have said no to fair pay. They've said no to extending unemployment insurance for over 3 million Americans looking for a new job."

Earlier Tuesday, Obama met with his Cabinet secretaries and urged them to "be creative about how we can make real progress" on issues where Congress won't act.

Obama said he would prefer that Congress act on issues such as immigration and infrastructure because laws are more sweeping than his own administrative actions.

"We're not always going to be able to get things through Congress, at least not this Congress," Obama said. "I want to make sure we emphasize not what we can't do, but what we can do in the coming months."

Speaking at Washington's Key Bridge, Obama in shirt sleeves and his tie undone made a pitch to fix the nation's bridges and highways.

He called on Congress to close tax loopholes and use the money on infrastructure projects, a long shot idea that has little if any support among congressional Republicans.

"It's not crazy. It's not socialism," he said, mocking the criticism from some conservative quarters. "You know, it's not, you know, the imperial presidency or no laws are broken."

"Obama: Stop Trying to “Outmaneuver” the Constitution and Do Your JOB !!"

The South Carolina congressman recently released a statement sharing his thoughts on the unanimous Supreme Court decision that labeled President Obama’s recess appointments as unconstitutional.
As has come to be expected from the passionate speaker, he nails the president to the wall for attempting to redefine the plain language of the Constitution, stating that since Obama taught constitutional law, he ought to know better.
The scathing rebuke also defined the president’s prime responsibility as making sure that the Constitution is followed, not “outmaneuvered.”
via TPNN:
Congressman Trey Gowdy commented on the Supreme Court’s unanimous 9-0 decision to strike down Obama’s “recess” appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) when the Senate was actually in session. Congressman Gowdy says that it’s Obama’s job to follow the Constitution, not outmaneuver it for political expediency.
Gowdy said that Obama doesn’t get to change the definition of the word “recess,” just to fit his political whims, and that Obama should know better, since he claims to be a constitutional expert.

Here’s Gowdy’s full statement released on his website:
Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) released this statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision striking down the President’s NLRB “recess” appointments as unconstitutional:
“These ‘recess’ appointments were void ab initio. Even a cursory understanding of the Constitution dictates the conclusion that the definition of ‘recess’ does not change depending upon which political party is in power, which is why the Supreme Court ruled 9-0.”
“For the President, who once taught constitutional law, to force the Supreme Court to do what the plain language of the Constitution makes clear is not leadership. In the process, he has left the NLRB in a state of legal flux and compromised litigants, employees, and employers. “
“The Constitution is not a tool to be wielded for political expediency. It is the supreme law of the land and the President’s responsibility is to take care that it is followed, not outmaneuvered.”

Trey Gowdy knocked this one out of the park. The role of the president is to ensure that the Constitution is followed, the laws of the land are enforced, and the country is safe from threats. He has no right or authority to bypass Congress or redefine the Constitution to suit his agenda.
Unfortunately, it appears that despite all of the resistance from both conservatives and liberals regarding his abuse of power, Obama still wants to “go it alone” and try forcing his agenda through without the consent of Congress, and as a result, the American people.
It’s time for this shenanigans to be brought to an end, and it appears the only way for that to happen is impeachment."

The president is the executive who's only job is to enforce the law. So far Obama has failed to do even that.
The congress is the peoples voice in Washington who's only job is to create the laws. Those brainless enough to cheer Obama on cannot see this sets precedence and permanently over rides THEIR voice in Washington in exchange for a admitted bought out politician who is now a dictator.
The Judicial is the branch that is supposed to balance out the government so this does not happen by holding the president to account of his actions. What the brain dead left wants is to give up their voice and checks on the power the president can hold thinking Obama will rule forever in a blissful utopia. (Like i said they are brain dead. What a crock. Obama's idea of a Republican Congress doing something is for it to go along with his proposal du jour. Perhaps it never occurred to the Narcissist-in-Chief that he's hearing "no" a lot because his ideas are ill-advised, ignorant, and/or unconstitutional! More likely, the man has parleyed his skin color, his "underprivileged upbringing," and his "love" for the people into becoming the central figure for a host of kool-aid drinking followers and has just never heard the word "no" before and can't handle it.

I'm thinking the latter is more likely, in no small part because the man simply can't conceive of himself being wrong. Ever. More evidence for that conclusion is offered by his childish tantrums and schoolyard bully threats of which this is only the most recent.
