Obama vows to act alone, taunts Republicans

"So sue me. I'm not going to apologize for trying to do something."

President Barack Obama defiantly dared congressional Republicans on Tuesday to try to block his efforts to act on his own and bypass a divided Congress that has thwarted his policy initiatives.

"So sue me," he taunted on a sweltering day, as he pushed lawmakers to pay for road and bridge repairs. "I'm not going to apologize for trying to do something."

Obama struck an aggressive tone in the face of a lawsuit threat from House Speaker John Boehner and in the wake of two defeats before the Supreme Court, including a unanimous decision from the court that he overreached when he appointed members of the National Labor Relations Board while the Senate was in recess.

His remarks came a day after Obama declared that he would act on his own to address weaknesses in the nation's immigration system after Boehner informed him that the House would not take up an immigration overhaul this year.

He has already taken a series of executive actions, including an order requiring federal contractors to pay a higher minimum wage and initiating steps to to lower carbon emissions in coal-fired power plants.

"So far this year, Republicans in Congress have blocked or voted down every serious idea to strengthen the middle class — not ideas that are unique to me," he said. "But the Republicans have said no to raising the minimum wage, have said no to fair pay. They've said no to extending unemployment insurance for over 3 million Americans looking for a new job."

Earlier Tuesday, Obama met with his Cabinet secretaries and urged them to "be creative about how we can make real progress" on issues where Congress won't act.

Obama said he would prefer that Congress act on issues such as immigration and infrastructure because laws are more sweeping than his own administrative actions.

"We're not always going to be able to get things through Congress, at least not this Congress," Obama said. "I want to make sure we emphasize not what we can't do, but what we can do in the coming months."

Speaking at Washington's Key Bridge, Obama in shirt sleeves and his tie undone made a pitch to fix the nation's bridges and highways.

He called on Congress to close tax loopholes and use the money on infrastructure projects, a long shot idea that has little if any support among congressional Republicans.

"It's not crazy. It's not socialism," he said, mocking the criticism from some conservative quarters. "You know, it's not, you know, the imperial presidency or no laws are broken."

John will probably go to dinner this week and cave !

You don't get it. Obama tried reaching across the aisle, and received a nonstop chorus of NO for 6 years from House Republicans.

He has done his job. House Republicans have certainly not done their job, so Obama finally said "Fine. You don't want to be part of any solution? We'll do it without you".

Republicans thought that Obama would acquiesce as he has in the past. This time he didn't. It's amusing to hear them accuse him of being "weak" the same month they accuse him of being a "dictator"

Darwin's choice

obama's dream.....

obama/democrats failing

"You don't get it. Obama tried reaching across the aisle, and received a nonstop chorus of NO for 6 years from House Republicans."

I guess you don't remember those wonderful first two years when dems had a supermajority in the Senate, and a substantial majority in the House... and didn't need anything from the repubes and stated it often, loudly, and proudly.

It seems recent US history is not something you are good at. Remember the first meeting between obama and repube congressional leaders? Obama told them that "we won, you didn't" And now you wonder why those same leaders are waiting for him to compromise first? Most folks tend to remember when they get slapped down like that. Payback is a witch. So if you wish to point fingers and claim the high ground neither side has clean hands.

I suggest you read up on recent US history before making such statement as the one I quoted from you coaster.

According to the constitution a President can only act with congressional approval! A act in which he chooses to act without approval is 100% impeachable! This would be his countless impeachable offense! (Benghazi, IRS Scandal, Amnesty, ect.)

So, should we also have impeached every other President from the 1950's to present, since they all used Executive Action MORE than Obama has? Hypocrisy has a warm home in the Republican Party these days.

Yet none of those times times make it acceptable. Kindly stop making excuses for it to be and perhaps hold the President you voted for to a higher standard than the others whom you seem to detest. Because right now, he is playing in the mud with them and making a spectacular mess.

Also, kindly go another decade back and include President Roosevelt, the father of modern Constitutional boundary pushing and threatening of other branches (namely the Supreme Court).

What is worse, the Republican hypocrisy or the fact you as a loyal party member are making excuses for this behavior to continue and allowing for it into future perpetuity?

Is it me, or do I hear a lot of crickets when coastie is presented with valid facts?

A leader persuades, a leader cajoles, a leader woos, a leader compromises and if that doesn't work a leader realizes that it's not yet time and with a great deal of class moves onto something else. We have no leader in the WH. What we have is a tyrant.

Actually, Obama did all the things mentioned in your first sentence, only to get the hand in the Face every single time. So, with a great deal of class, he moved on to plan B: govern our country without the completely intransigent Republican Party.

And let's not forget who decided to exclude Republicans from being a part of the solution. That is something that the leaders of the Republican Party chose for themselves.

Tell me, is that before or after all the conversations he declared ended? Or the fact he constantly says he's willing to work with anyone so long as they are doing it in a way he likes? Or how convincing can one be if he blames them for "having to take action" after he gave them a timeline on his own about an issue he wants presented on his terms?

I'm reminded of a scene from Blazing Saddles where the Sheriff takes himself hostage in front of everyone and after duping the townsfolk with such a dumb move he hugs himself and says, "Oh baby you are so talented, and they are so dumb." Right to the audience.

When it comes to immigration, that is sixteenth on the list of what's important to the American people.

Why don't you hold the President to a higher standard, ESPECIALLY as an avowed Democrat? Wouldn't you rather lead the donkey to market, laden with goods. Or is it better to be the one who cleans the constant crap out of the stalls? You are in a better position within your party to ask for more and better. I'd really appreciate it if you'd do that.

Little Giant

Is this one of those junk lawsuits that tea baggers are always talking about?

Most likely. You'd think they would have instead sued Canada, since the Canadian Radio Act has banned the network. You see, in Canada, it's illegal to lie on broadcast news.

Re: "Canadian Radio Act has banned the network."

More Bill Maher blather?

"The Fox News television channel has been banned in Canada. False.":

"that channel is now carried by dozens of different digital providers throughout Canada."

Would you PLEASE stop fact-checking coaster? It isn't fair to only allow facts to be used. Imagination is so much easier for him to use. It fits his worldview so much better than truth and facts.

Now we will get told that citations are not necessary as he KNOWS what is truth when he reads it. He shouldn't need to back his statements.

" You see, in Canada, it's illegal to lie on broadcast news."

--Fox News , Rush Limburger, and the other right-wing propaganda lie machines would be gone.

Do you have anything to say or are you just sitting back ready to wisecrack?

Quick reality check for the Obama worshipers.
The president is the executive who's only job is to enforce the law. So far Obama has failed to do even that.
The congress is the peoples voice in Washington who's only job is to create the laws. Those brainless enough to cheer Obama on cannot see this sets precedence and permanently over rides THEIR voice in Washington in exchange for a admitted bought out politician who is now a dictator.
The Judicial is the branch that is supposed to balance out the government so this does not happen by holding the president to account of his actions. What the brain dead left wants is to give up their voice and checks on the power the president can hold thinking Obama will rule forever in a blissful utopia. (Like i said they are brain dead. Either way it is completely Un-American and borders on treason to want the over throw of the US system.

be for real

somebody always has to pull the race card.poor little black man. it has nothing to do with race, white ,brown ,black does not matter his race he is not a good president and i foe one will be glad when he is impeached or his worthless term is over

Obama: "So sue me. I'm not going to apologize for trying to do something."

This kind of rant only makes him appear politically powerless and weak.

A president flaying while circling the drain.

Maybe his pie maker put too much "crack" in his latest pie.

Re: "'crack' in his latest pie."

I watched the video.

The Buffoon-in-Chief got a big laugh.

Serious and dangerous drug usage is a joke? What a @#@$% loser!

"First Lady Has No Taste for President Obama’s Crack Pie Joke":

So as part of the Choom Gang, lil' Barry had experience with crack?

That would explain A LOT of the mental confusion.

Pres. Obama: Stumbling and bumbling through his presidency.

Aw, poor little tea baggers now p.o'ed cause the POTUS taunted them. Gee, maybe they can get Ken Starr back to run his impeachment proceedings.... losers.

Re: "POTUS taunted them."

Yea, real mature for a POTUS. The Spoiled Child-in-Chief.

Can't get his own way - nana boo-boo! Whaa, whaa, whaa.

Are you concerned about all the illegal childre coming into the country.Who's going to take care of them? You?

"Dreams From My Father":

"I’d arrived at an unspoken pact with my grandparents: I could live with them and they'd leave me alone so long as I kept my trouble out of sight."

Yea, poor lil' orphaned Barry has had a history of people making allowances and excuses for his "trouble" while simultaneously kissin' his tush.

Recognize his greatness or he'll throw a hissy fit.

Better put lil' Barry in "time out." :)

What a crock. Obama's idea of a Republican Congress doing something is for it to go along with his proposal du jour. Perhaps it never occurred to the Narcissist-in-Chief that he's hearing "no" a lot because his ideas are ill-advised, ignorant, and/or unconstitutional! More likely, the man has parleyed his skin color, his "underprivileged upbringing," and his "love" for the people into becoming the central figure for a host of kool-aid drinking followers and has just never heard the word "no" before and can't handle it.

I'm thinking the latter is more likely, in no small part because the man simply can't conceive of himself being wrong. Ever. More evidence for that conclusion is offered by his childish tantrums and schoolyard bully threats of which this is only the most recent.

Quick litmus test :If the president was a Republican would you still support his decision to "Go it alone" and run over congress?
If not you are a hypocrite, If so you are a moron. Your choice.
