A Sandusky man with a suspended driver's license led law enforcement on two high-speed chases covering nearly 15 miles through Huron and Perkins townships Saturday afternoon.

Robert Armstrong, 23, of the 2000 block of Rhode St., sped through multiple intersections and likely topped 100 mph before ultimately surrendering on Old Railroad Road at about 2:15 p.m.

Erie County deputy Trevor Harlow first spotted Armstrong at about 2 p.m. while directing traffic at an Osborn MetroPark lacrosse tournament, Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth said.

Harlow ordered Armstrong stop the car, aware his license had been suspended for child support violations.

Armstrong refused to stop and sped off, nearly striking Harlow with a black 1999 Oldsmobile Alero, belonging to Armstrong's girlfriend, which he was driving, Sigsworth said.

He then headed east onto Cleveland Road and south onto Camp Road.

A pair of nearby deputies overheard police scanner traffic about the incident and pursued the Alero on Camp Road, according to an Erie County Sheriff's report.

They eventually called off the chase, however, after Armstrong disregarded stop signs at Boos, Bogart and Camp roads.

"We knew who he was, and the risks involved outweighed the need to stop him at that point," said deputy Johann Matute, one of the two officers following Armstrong. "It was too dangerous."

Soon after, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers spotted Armstrong heading north on U.S. 250, according to the report. They initiated their own pursuit, following Armstrong as he sped west onto Bogart Road and north onto Old Railroad Road.

Armstrong eventually stopped fleeing just north of Strub Road.

Deputies charged Armstrong with failure to comply, reckless operation, assault on a police officer and driving under suspension.

They charged his girlfriend, Rebecca Jones, 21, also of the 2000 block of Rhode St., with wrongful entrustment for letting Armstrong drive her car with a suspended driver's license.

Armstrong's brother, a passenger in the Alero, will not be criminally charged.

While searching the Alero, deputies and troopers found suspected heroin, which they sent to BCI for testing, Matute said.

Armstrong is currently being held in Erie County Jail without bond.

Let me guess, no license, no insurance, probably on welfare as he does not work, and has a girlfriend with low self esteem as why else would she be with such a loser!

You are most likely 90% correct, however, single men cannot get welfare.

where do you live? he's got a couple of kids. you pay his child support

No and obviously neither does he

Dwight K.

Ha what a

Cars should have cop activated ejection seats.

contest coming in toledo

speed camera tomato throwing contest

Now instead of a driving with a suspended license violation, he has felony charges. What a dumb___. So is his girlfriend for letting him drive her car.

Never ever let someone have your car , only responsible people covered on your insurance. Especially not a useless piece of trash like him, never ever .Wake up.

Pretty much anyone that drives your car is covered by your insurance. "Occasional driver" covers anyone.

Not if it's your live in and he don't have a licence smarty.

Well yes, then smarty. If they do not have a license then they would not be covered. I do not have friends with no licenses. Never had that problem. And I would not allow someone with no license to drive my car.

Well not everyone is covered than are they! Just pointing out your flaw as you like to point out spelling errors. Not sure if you are trying to imply that I know individuals with out licences. I do but only threw my line in of work not in my personal life.

I see a Oldsmobile aurora

You may outrun my motor but you'll never outrun my Motorola!

Man bro, you know you done wrong bro, why add up the charges bro.....all I need is one fist to you and you may then grow up bro.....

dumb iqnorant retarted crackers these days im suprise they didnt find more drugs in that car thats all they do is sell drugs and do it!! Sandusky`s finest lol :)

If I'm a cracker then I can call you Nagger.

"dumb iqnorant retarted crackers these days im suprise they didnt find more drugs in that car thats all they do is sell drugs and do it!!"
This is a absolute masterpiece of every type of grammar mistake known to mankind, Congrats! I mean that with the kindest regards for your "Sentence?"

Saw part of the pursuit and those new OSP Dodge Chargers were moving. Those State Troopers are good in times like this. They spend hours at the Patrol Academy in Columbus on special tracks on the State Fair grounds training in pursuits. Those State Troopers are pretty darn hard to escape from. Get a couple of troopers working a pursuit and they work in complete unison in stopping a car.

Glad no innocent people got hurt. To L.E .... communicate? Glad the locals called off chase since they knew he was obtainable. O.S.P. over zealous?

They saw him break laws they started their own pursuit! Yes they communicate!

just like i said dumb iqnorant people problem?

Stop It

F-U fat sparkling wiggle. You wanna start calling people crackers?

Sandman hope that is not true about Sigsworth. Have heard much good about him. Do know this...most (not all) OSP imo. leave much to be desired. Also had a relative stop his interview with them & told them they made him decide to stay Career Marine. He told me their attitude stunk.

Talked with a recruiter once and he said yes all osp are arrogant. They break you down and build you up like the military. We are told we are the best and we are. I too walked out. But made sense!

I can't see what sandman wrote but Ziggy rocks! We are lucky to have him as our sheriff!

Congrats on busting the bad bad non-support offender.. I'll sleep safe tonight, what a waste of manpower, patrols frm all agency's should be on every block around handcock 24/7 instead of using numeral recognition cameras for easy busts on working people

I have a renter, single mother, while she was at work last night some low life piece of garbage broke into her house and stole all of her childrens video games and players, their television, her jewelry, and dumped out her childrens toy box looking for more goodies. she works long hours and goes without so her kids can have the things they want. we are almost sure it was the upstairs tenants boyfriend. while she works 2 jobs that creep lays up on her dime. why do these "MEN" think they can take and do whatever they want with no consequences!!!!???

While I whole-heartedly agree with you, why do women put up with the loser men laying around? There is NO way I would work 2 jobs while some man laid on my couch all day doing NOTHING. Is there something special about them? Can they cook? Do they scrub the floor real good? Is there a special way they fold laundry? These boys, I cannot even call them men are complete losers. They need to grow up, get a job and become a MAN. But I question why the women put up with it too.

You might think you can outrun police, but u better think again. There are a lot more of them than just you driving. once they see you driving and see what youre driving, they will soon get you even if you think you are getting away with it. Should have stopped right when they told you to, Now you will be getting the book thrown at you hard.
