Update 11:20 a.m. — Both girls have been located.

They are being arrested right now at the CVS at Monroe and Warren streets, Sandusky police Chief John Orzech said.

Click HERE for photos of the arrest

Huron police Sgt. Terry Graham said police are transporting the girls to Huron and will provide additional information when it's available.

Update 9 a.m. — Sandusky police are attempting to identify and locate teenagers two missing girls were reportedly with before they went missing, Sandusky police chief John Orzech said this morning.

"They are supposed to be hanging out with them, or possibly could be with them," Orzech said.

Meanwhile a search and rescue team out of Delaware, Ohio, issued an alert for the two missing girls this morning.

SAR-OH is an all volunteer, non-profit search, rescue and disaster response team that does not charge for its services.

Headline: Two 13-year-olds go missing
— They went to Ohio Bike Week on Saturday

Two teenagers went missing Saturday after saying they were going to a friend's house but went to Sandusky for Ohio Bike Week in a taxi instead.

Huron police and the Sandusky police departments have scoured locations where the girls might have gone, but as of this morning they had not been located.

Zoe Koehler and Maggie Freeman, both 13, were staying at a grandmother's house. They said they were going to a friend's house, but instead the girls and a friend took a taxi to Sandusky, police said. The friend called for a ride home, but Koehler and Freeman remained downtown.

The last communication from the girls was to a friend via Snapchat at about midnight, and a cell phone locator placed them in Sandusky at 1:21 a.m., police said.

Koehler was wearing jeans and a white T-shirt with a print. Freeman was wearing jeans with a light plum shirt.

Anyone with information on the girls is asked to call Sandusky police at 419-627-5863 or Huron police at 419-433-4114.

I sincerely hope they are found unharmed! Based on the description I can't say I saw them in the shop over the weekend but I suppose I can always ask around my community in case anyone knows more.

Blowfish

If this is an abduction, not many scenarios could be worse. Out of town guests scattered back to where they've come from, naive young women in downtown Sandusky in the middle of the night when nothing good normally happens.

fedup2

What taxi driver would drive two 13 year olds into Sandusky without a parent or more information?

Blowfish

Probably 100%

WaterStreetCooncat

No Amber Alert?

Blowfish

Amber alerts are only issued when there is information pointing to an abduction. Possibly why they are asking for information now to justify an alert. Like did anyone see young girls get into a vehicle or something. No information at all is better than a wild goose chase.

jadenicole3

According to one of the girls Facebook posts..One of the girls last posted a comment at 1:08 p.m. yesterday. Maybe the police should look into the girls facebook because it looks like one of the girls was having an argument of some sort with some people. Maybe they should check that out and start asking the people involved on the post if they know anythung. sorry for not mentioning the name of which one on here but I just didn't find that necessary. I sure hope they find these young girls safe and sound. Prayers go out to them and their families.

mamajenjen

You must be on their friends list, because their profiles are both private. Perhaps you should notify the police as to what you saw?

lmalley77

Apparently Mamajenjen they made them private after this article posted or something because my daughter also said she went onto the girls' pages and saw comments on there and that the pages weren't private. So, if they are private now, the settings more than likely have been changed before you had a chance to look at the pages yourself. Just a thought that maybe you should consider.

Jaqdup

I was able to get on their pages as well and saw the rant. They must have made private recently.

ladydye_5

ALOT of 13 year olds talk like that. Especially on social media. Most parents do not check on it or see it. The ones that are so shy and never speak at school or in public.....check their twitters or their facebook, they would make sailor or a truck driver blush!

liberalmomof3

love how you feel compelled to bash these little girls when your own grown son is sitting in the county jail. don't throw stones. you don't know their story.

lmalley77

You said it right liberalmom!! Keyword, GROWN!!!!!!! I have no control over what my GROWN son does!!!! I can tell him a trillion times to leave a low life girl, who wants to call the police on him because he keeps calling her phone, alone, but if he doesn't, that's on HIM!!!!! On the other hand, MY 13 year olds weren't taking a cab from HURON on a Saturday to bike week in SANDUSKY with their friends and not not contacting anyone or coming home at all and in turn setting out a big search wasting money and resources only to find out that they have been shacked up with some boys for the weekend!!!! And by the way, since you seem to know me oh so well, and you have so much to say to me about my son, you don't have to hide behind your Sandusky Register screen handle, you can come and say what you have to say to me to my face!!!! Don't even try to compare me or my kids to these little 13 year old, out of control, need a good butt whoopin, disrespectful kids in this article!!! Like I said, bring that crap to my face!!!!

liberalmomof3

If your GROWN son can't make good decisions, how can you expect some teeny-boppers to make good decisions? These girls need alotta help. You have no idea what they have gone through or their families. IJS, you're not perfect. You're kids aren't perfect. Stop judging. No one is judging your parenting skills because your son can't keep his hands off a woman. It was so easy to figure out who you are. I have better things to do than bringing this crap to your face. I guess the apple doesn't fall that far from the tree.

lmalley77

Well apparently you must KNOW me, since you know my name, know my son's name, and know that he's in jail! But first off, you must not know me TOO well, because if you did, then you would know that my son has NEVER put his hands on that girl! Look at his charges dumb@$$ He's sitting in jail for telephone harassment because they kept calling EACH OTHER but when SHE didn't want to be bothered with the phone calls anymore, that's when her little butt decided to call the police on him. He also has unpaid fines and violation of a protection order from a previous incident from when SHE picked up a kitchen knife and threw it at MY son, and because he grabbed her wrist afterwards when she went psycho and tried to punch him, she told the police a made up story and got a protection order agaist him. SHE didn't even show up at court the day that he went for the protection order and he was told if she wasn't there by a certain time that those charges would be dropped, so how he was charged with a violation of that anyhow is beyond me! And if you think that anything I'm saying isn't true, then please, by all means, call his grandmother a liar while you are at it as well, because my son's ex-girlfriend is the one who told everything that I just told you to my son's grandmother!! And my son's grandmother is a very honest church going woman, so I know that she isn't lieing or just making up stories! So, maybe you should try to get your stories straight the next time you want to slander someone's child and call them a woman beater!!!! My son knows better than to put his hands on a woman, he saw enough of that done to me growing up if that's what you meant by your smart@$$ little comment of "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!" Again, since you know who I am, and I obviously have NO problem telling you ANYTHING about me, why don't you divulge who YOU are? Oh, that's right, you probably don't have enough balls to! And these girls had NO business taking a cab from Huron to Sandusky on a Saturday, to bike week, where THOUSANDS of drunk bikers and other people were, and not coming home or calling anyone at all!! They had many people looking for them, frantically, searching, using valuable time, money, and resources! And what were they doing!? Shacking up with BOYS for the weekend!!!! Are you freaking kidding me?? These girls are THIRTEEN years old, just got out of SEVENTH GRADE!!!! Are you seriously condoning this behavior???? If so, I would seriously question YOUR parenting skills right now!!! Would you be ok with this if it were YOUR 13 year old daughter who did this??? And you act like I'm the only one who thought the same way that I do, MANY others said way worse things than I did, but because you know who I am, you decide to personally get on here and slam ME!?! WHY?? Personal?? Hmmm...Again, why don't you just say who you are?? Those girls, or at least Maggie, needs a butt whooping and some parental intervention in her life, just go look at her facebook page and tell me you don't agree!!!!!. And you are right, they do need some help, but you don't know their story either, because before you got on here and slammed me, people who personally KNOW Maggie AND her mom stated that she is an out of control 13 year old and her mom has NO control of her at all and let's her get away with EVERYTHING!!!! The Register deleted those comments, so of course you probably didn't see THOSE...but it's ok, you keep judging ME while you be a hypocrit and tell me not to judge others! Lol p.s. I'm sure you know I'm on facebook, so why don't you just stop being a wuss and tell me how you feel there! :)

Daniella70

For this big a**'paragraph of yours! these girls weren't so called "shacking" up with boys for the weekend ! So how about you go get your stuff straight before you start talking crap as well.

amy0326

I saw it too Jade!!! I love both these girls myself they are wonderful friends to my son. I hope both return how safe.

Stop It

13 yr. old girls out at a biker event at 1:30 am. Nuff said!

jadenicole3

I agree! My daughter is 16 and wasn't allowed down there after dusk.

Joker

I'm assuming the missing girls weren't ALLOWED either, but they still went.

mimi's word

I hope your 16 yr. old can read better than you..."were staying at a grandmother's house. They said they were going to a friend's house, but instead the girls and a friend took a taxi to Sandusky..."

nottheonlyone

Skylar's Law, a law that will ensure that any child under the age of 18 regardless of the circumstances of their disappearance will be considered a MISSING PERSON, first and foremost, and be treated as such, until a further investigation points to the fact that they have indeed runaway.

So under This law should an Amber Alert not be issued? ?

sandman312

Summary of Department of Justice Recommended Criteria

1. There is reasonable belief by law enforcement that an abduction has occurred.
2. The law enforcement agency believes that the child is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.
3. There is enough descriptive information about the victim and the abduction for law enforcement to issue an AMBER Alert to assist in the recovery of the child.
4. The abduction is of a child aged 17 years or younger.
5. The child’s name and other critical data elements, including the Child Abduction flag, have been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system.

Kelly

No, it shouldn't.

lunchtime 175

Yes why would a taxi company take two 13 year old kids to Sandusky without written permission from their parents or guardians?? I think the Taxi company needs investigated too on its guidelines, etc. Hopefully the girls are found safe.

SamAdams

Taxi drivers aren't babysitters, nor should we expect them to be. Too many parents already seem to think that teachers are responsible for their kids' behavior, and now cab companies? What's next, the pizza delivery guy?

I have little doubt that any cab driver would have reported a young girl in his cab unwillingly, but there's every indication here that the kids had intent as well as the cab fare. Combine that with the fact that some parents TELL their kids to take a cab rather than getting a ride from a stranger (or an untrustworthy neighbor or acquaintance), and I just don't get how anybody could hold the driver (or the cab company) even a LITTLE responsible!

How about the parents who left the girls with a grandmother? How about a grandmother who apparently didn't verify the girls were expected at their friend's house? I'm not necessarily blaming them, either -- teenagers aren't always the most reliable when it comes to honesty, especially when they have plans they know probably wouldn't be approved by guardians -- but certainly they bear more responsibility than a guy doing his job!

That being said, teenagers are also not always the most responsible. A party is a party is a party, and they don't typically have the life experience to make the best choices. That doesn't mean they should be punished for it by being harmed, though, so here's hoping this is JUST a lesson learned for one and all and not anything worse than that!

ram03

Last I checked there is no law restricting age and using a taxi. Hope they are safe if they indeed ran away from home.

William Jeffers...

Probably no different than jumping on a bus...BUT even if not legally required, it would probably be a responsible business practice to do so.

sandusky2012

LEAVE IT TO THE SANDUSKY POLICE DEPARTMENT TO SCREW THIS UP BY NO AMBER ALERT. DID'T THEY SCREW UP THAT ABDUCTION AMBER ALERT IN 2008.FROM THE NEWS REPORT BACK THEN IT TOOK SPD 19 MONTHS TO LIST THE CHILD INTO THE DATA BASE... WAY TO GO SPD

sandman312
mimi's word

So you will be joining the force since you know how to do their job so much better correct?

Licorice Schtick

Leave it to clueless shrieking idiots to blame the police without the benefit of facts.

If an Amber Alert were issued for every teenager who failed to check in, you'd get dozens daily, all ignored.

JohnDorian12

Blaming the police?? Really?? Don't use this article as a stage for your personal attacks...I'm sure whatever they did that made you bitter was justified just by reading some of your childish rants

whatsyourissue

No matter the circumstances, I hope these young ladies are found quickly. I can't even phathom how sick with worry their families are.

New mom

Spd didn't screw up an amber alert know what you are talking about before you open your mouth...

sandusky2012

New mom yes they did I bet they didn't even enter the children immediately into The NCIC data base....
http://www.missingkids.com/en_US...
"Verify, through the investigating law-enforcement agency, that information about your
missing child has been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Missing
Person File. Federal law2
requires law enforcement to enter information about a missing
child into NCIC no more than two hours after the receipt of the report."

I WONDER IF SPD VIOLATED THIS LAW AGAIN?
2
The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act (Pub. L. No. 109-248) mandates NCIC entry must be made by law
enforcement within two hours of receipt of a report of a missing or abducted child. This two-hour requirement
replaces the term “immediately” in the National Child Search Assistance Act (NCSAA, 42 U.S.C. §§ 5779 and 5780)."

richrs

What a douche bag!

freethinker1

Two kids unsupervised after midnight at a biker event. What could possibly go wrong?

Whiskey in a Teacup

Will they be charged for their crimes when located?

Licorice Schtick

The appropriate action will be decided upon, once the facts are in, through due process. Most of us won't be a part of that, and most likely, we won't even get to know much more than we already know.

kgilbert

Will the register update the news of there girls?

watched_ones

I don't know what would be more scary for them if they were my kids. Being kidnapped or being found and given back to me. Over all I hope they are found unharmed. Best of luck to the families.

Babo

The cruelty of many posters here never cease to amaze me. It is Monday morning; two 13 year old girls are still missing since Saturday night, and a group out of Delaware Ohio (not Sandusky their home) has issued a search alert.

They are 13 year old precious girls (not even close to adult age) who are extremely vulnerable to sexual predators. A community is supposed to protect the weak and vulnerable not derive vicarious pleasure from somebody else's worst fears and heartache.

Come on SR, please try to assist their families by publicizing search efforts or any other way concerned people can help.

totallyamazed

.
It doesn't really say where they are from, kinda confusing. The article said they took a cab to Sandusky (suggesting they were from somewhere else) and the article mentions that Huron PD is also involved and Delaware,OH has interest in this as well.

You're right that folks need to be more sensitive to the feelings of all involved when situations like this occur. Not only are they possibly scared sick but their families as well.

Read again! They lied and did this. These girls need put in DYS for a month or so and learn a lesson.

Well that being said the friends of these girls should be pressed for info and stop this madness before innocent time , people and resources are wasted again for children proving that they can manipulate the system and emotions of folks by doing idiotic drama filled instances like this. Authorities should go and sniff around that hell hole called Remington or maybe if the Police look real good they might be found in some back yard on Hancock having beers and a blunt.

Whiskey in a Teacup

Well done

VeggieGirl

So glad to see the girls were found. I'm sure their loved ones are torn between wanting to hug them in pure relief, and wanting to choke them...

Julie R.

I would be tempted to choke them.

That said, obviously these kids are from Huron.

Informed

That is highly insulting to the rest of the kids from Huron, the vast majority of whom are great kids. Heck, about 90% of each graduating class goes on to college. Get over your hatred of all people in Huron.

Licorice Schtick

Uh-huh. Supposed to insult Sandusky, not Huron, right?

Informed

No, don't insult people as a whole from anywhere. There are lots of good kids in every town.

Julie R.

Duh, the reason I said "obviously the girls are from Huron" is because the updated article says the police were transporting the girls to Huron.

Once again, DUH.

Informed

I apologize if I took what you said the wrong way, but in your past statements you often insult Huron.
But you don't need to be so snarky.

VeggieGirl

Julie, I don't understand the "obviously these girls are from Huron" comment. "Obviously" because they are acting out, and only Huron kids do that? Or don't you think that Huron parents feel that hug them/choke them reaction when their kids behave badly?

Julie R.

@VeggieGirl: Once again, DUH. The reason I said "obviously these girls are from Huron" is because the updated article mentions the Huron police and the girls being transported to Huron. (btw, I live in Huron)

ladydye_5

Why is it never the guilty ones fault. Always blame someone else? This is what is wrong with kids today. Noone takes responsibility. There are MANY mothers that have no help from their children's fathers or the families. Do not place blame on that. Make the kids accountable for their actions. Do not give them excuses. Make them own their actions. This child has been allowed to run wild and knows that someone will always make excuses for her and blame someone else for her behavior.

mimi's word

Moderators have removed this comment because it contained Personal attacks (including: name calling, presumption of guilt or guilt by association, insensitivity, or picking fights).

BrighteyesMonroe

Exactly correct!

SamAdams

I totally agree. No single woman could POSSIBLY be aware enough, selfless enough, or strong enough to raise a child that isn't a hoodlum. No single woman has ever, in fact, managed to do so, and all bad kids come from such homes. Every one of them! < /sarcasm off>

Dick Tracey is right. Being a decent parent is hard work (which may explain why so many can't be bothered). But being a decent parent isn't dependent on ex-husbands, either! Sure, it's harder alone (isn't everything?). And yet plenty of divorcees and widows manage to do a great job parenting.

"Tries her best" is nothing but an excuse, and so is blaming somebody else.

Babo

Thankfully these girls are OK. They both need serious help and time in juvenile court and detention for their actions.

Factitious

No end to conclusions without the annoying inconvenience of facts.

VERY Glad they are safe, but upon their arrests they go from missing children to juvenile criminals and those photos in cuffs are questionable.

Informed

And they should. Minors cannot go missing on purpose with no accountability to anyone.

Babo

I'm guessing the poster meant that posting pictures of minors' arrest may be a questionable invasion of privacy or in poor taste. For example, rather than being ashamed these girls may be pleased with the attention.

Kottage Kat

Thank God they are found and safe.

Licorice Schtick

...and that may be the last we hear of it.

The appropriate action will be decided upon, once the facts are in, through due process. Most of us won't be a part of that.

.

he said she said

On one hand, I am glad that these two were found safe.

On the other hand, the one holding a leather belt, these two would get the a$$ whooping they need to get their act in line!! Actually one for every act they did wrong since Saturday when they lied to Grandma about where they were going until today when they were found.

If the one girl says she likes it in the DH then put her there and throw away the key. She's too old now to try and start disciplining because she's had free reign for too long but I certainly would make her think twice about leaving again....

jadenicole3

Mimi...first of all I do know how to read. Maybe you need to learn how to interpret. I was simply making my own statement in saying I wouldn't allow my daughter to go down to bike week. I never once said anything about grandmother, mother, father or any other of these girls family members ALLOWING or giving these girls permission to go there. You might want to think before you speak. There always has to be one person in the crowd looking to argue. Lol

jadenicole3

So glad they were found and safe!

powerhouser

Now that it a criminal case, not a missing persons shouldn't their pictures and names be removed from paper ? Or will Register start putting pictures/names of all juveniles in paper now ?

SoOverIt

Any word on why or how they got to CVS? Who tipped off SPD? So many questions! I need answers!

ladydye_5

I'm sure they will get YOU all the answers you need soon. That is going to be their first priority.

Whiskey in a Teacup

Kids are doing what kids have always done. It doesn't matter how many parents, how available, how disciplined... Young people test the boundaries, push the envelope__ it's irrational to blame poor parenting for every thoughtless idea that ever came into a teenagers mind.

Dilligaff

These two are clearly headed for great things. Maybe they're trying to make the next cast of 16 and pregnant, or they could have a bet on which on makes prison first.

WaterStreetCooncat

Since CVS sells newspapers someone IN CVS probably saw their picture & then spotted them goofing around in the pharmacy & called.
Seeing the neighborhood they were found in, the little darlings will probably have another nice surprise for their parents - a couple nice brown buns in the oven.

bjm

Thank you CVS staff for making the call.

lmalley77

Oh sure....nice Sandusky Register! My comments get deleted because I point out the fact that at least one of these girls is extremely disrespectful and out of control as evidenced by her facebook page, which is easily accessible by the whole wide world with a click of a button, but you leave those two comments up that are a few behind this one? Awesome job guys, awesome job! Lol
