A Port Clinton man died early Sunday following a one-vehicle crash in Margaretta Township on Wahl road near Brunner road, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said.

Leon McCoy, 22, died at about 5:45 a.m. Sunday after the one-car crash at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

McCoy was diving a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire, troopers said.

He was traveling west on Wahl Road and lost control around a curve, troopers said. At that point, his car struck a utility pole, mailbox and tree. He was ejected from his vehicle.

He was not wearing a seat belt, authorities said.

McCoy was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center, then later taken by Metro LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where he died.

The crash is still under investigation. Authorities said alcohol may have been a factor.

His car suffered significant damage, troopers said.

Margaretta Fire and EMS and the Erie County Sheriff’s office assisted at the scene.

Take a step back OMGreally, and re-read cantsays comment. I 100% agree with cantsay, and I wasn't there, but I don't believe this man was "evected" either.

The original story used the word "evected" rather than "ejected." It's since been fixed.

That post was to the original sr post. Where they stated he was evected from the vehicle. They have since then read their own post and corrected it, thanks

My thoughts and prayers to the family. His family is like my family. I've known this boy since he was about 13-14 and he was a good kid who will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace now Evertt.

"McCoy was not wearing a seat belt."

Why the hell not? May have helped here.

So unfortunate to hear of a person this young with so many years left to live shortchanged by the use of too much alcohol and driving. Thoughts to his family and friends.

So, getting drunk and driving like a maniac (yes I've seen the boy drive) is good? He made a stupid choice and luckily his stupidity only hurt himself physically. His actions hurt so many people because he clearly didn't care enough about them to take care of himself to sober up and live a good life. Unfortunately in a lot of cases, the stupid die young! What a waste of a young life!

You have to see the irony in calling people who care about spelling dumb.

I agree! Seems to me that it would take more effort (or it should take more effort) to type with all of the slang than it would to spell correctly and sound semi educated! I don't see the appeal in sounded ignorant and uneducated!
