Weisberg, a music theater major at Baldwin Wallace College, bested 13 other talented women who competed in the Miss Vacationland program, held at McCormick Junior High in Huron.
“This was my first scholarship program” Weisberg said. “I’ve never done anything like this before. When they called my name and said I was the winner … I looked over at the audience and my mother was sobbing”
Weisberg, who also won the Talent Award and the Interview Award during the program, won $2,400 in scholarships.
Her platform is “Dating Beyond Control: Interactive Education on Dating Violence.” She plans to become an actress on Broadway when she graduates. Her parents are Edward and Dorothy Weisberg, of Monroeville, Pa.
The competition judges were Ruth March and Sandy Stephen, of Huntington, Ind.; Jonathan Tobar, of Adrian, Mich.; Laura Pennington, of Germantown, Md.; and local residents Barbara Falfas, Ann Marie Muehlhauser and Jimy Foreman.
Weisberg will go on to compete in the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program June 19-21 in Mansfield.
The first runner-up in the program was Camille Dyquiangco, a Case Western Reserve University student who also won the Lifestyle and Fitness Award. She receives $950 in scholarships. The second runner-up was Alexis Richter, a University of Cincinnati student who will receive a $400 scholarship.
All Miss Vacationland Scholarship Program participants receive a scholarship in some amount.
“We are all very excited about Hannah-Jo. She is a super young lady, very well-educated, wonderful talent and has been involved with her platform of education on dating violence for several years,” said Mayer, the executive director of the Miss Vacationland Scholarship Program. “We also want to thank publicly the donors of the scholarships, the in-kind donators and all the supporters and board members who were so kind as to be a part of the Miss Vacationland Scholarship Program”
