Police arrested a Sandusky man who punched his elderly mother in the face, possibly breaking her nose.

A witness heard two people arguing outside a home in the 2700 block of W. Monroe St. and called police just after noon Thursday, according to the report.

Police said Bartt Carruthers, 48, struck his mother, Virginia Nugent, 83, during the argument, seriously injuring her.

She was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Nugent has since been released from the hospital, but Carruthers remains in the Erie County jail on a $33,000 bond, with a 10 percent cash provision.

He faces charges of domestic violence and felonious assault, a second-degree felony punishable by up to eight years in prison.

 Now there's a REAL MAN.  Punched his mother in the face?  I wish she would have been able to beat him bloody!  This pig needs to be put away.

Nasty man isn't strong enough language to discribe him. He is a total waste of human life. It sounds like he has a big alcohol problem and turns into a mean drunk. I hate to say it, but if I was his mother I would have disowned him a long time ago. If he has been in trouble since he was 22 or so, then she knew in her heart that he was a loser. What a loser. This guy, meanwhile, is SUCH a "big man" that he goes after an 83 year-old woman who just happens to be his mother besides. Even most of the worst criminals still love their mothers!

I'm sure he

* Never felt like his mama loved him

* Couldn't find a job suited to his "qualifications"

* Has had any number of bad breaks in his life

* Blames alcohol, drugs, or some other poor choice HE, and ONLY he, made

* Is jealous of other people's accomplishments and is just trying to ensure "fairness" by committing theft and/or assault of some kind

In other words, he's no different than a million other people. It's just that most of those other million deal with adversity in a far more constructive way. I know what other prisoners typically think of child abusers. Wonder what they think of helpless-senior-citizen abusers? Here's hoping it's pretty much the same...

   He went to prison for armed robbery.  He was sentenced to prison but didn't have to report to jail immediately.  The week-end before he reported to jail he robbed several establishments.  One robbery was probably when Island View's purse was stolen.  When the police were called they said he was going to jail anyway and he was never charged for any of those thefts.

    I was involved in a prior theft.  His mother kept ranting about her sweet little boy.  Karma can be a B&^%#H, might seem cruel but no pitty for the mother.  He'll be able to work-out in prison and when they let him out this time mayble he'll assault someone in autority and they'll finally lock him up for good.  As long as the crimes are against the public, the jail time is always less, sad but true.
