William Avsec, 21, was driving a 2011 Harley Davidson south on Butler Road near U.S. 20 when he crashed just after 11 p.m., according to a news release from the Norwalk post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The road was closed for construction, and he struck an uneven portion of pavement, causing him to lose control of motorcycle and crash.

The motorcycle overturned and landed in a ditch, throwing Avsec from the vehicle.

He was flown by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland for treatment.

He was wearing eye protection, but was not wearing a helmet.

Troopers suspect alcohol was a factor in the cause of the crash, according to the news release.

Avsec was listed in critical condition Wednesday morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.
